Pat, I would be happy to send a photo to Backyard Poultry, but I can't picture writing an article...I know next to nothing about them except what I have observed about my own ( 3, a very small sample ) birds.
I know they fly well and need a covered run. Mine are friendly enough but flighty and...
Ummm....I hesitate to bring this up, giving the drubbing you're taking Allen, but did you say you have two chickens? A hen and a rooster? Oh dear. Had them long? Because really, you will need about, oh, nine or so more hens for this to work out, regardless of eye pecking issues.
I'm very...
I seem to not be able to figure out how to put text with photos.
Anyhoo, five babies in the photo, added one last hatchling later. Six total. I'm thrilled. First hatch for me, first eggs for the happy couple. : )

Coop #1 has 120 sf of interior space, 144 sf run....6 Cochin.
Coop #2 has 42 sf interior space, 160 sf run....3 Crevecouer.
Coop #3 has 64 interior, 256 run....15 bantam cochins and silkies.
Fair amount of space per chicken. No behavioral issues.

I'm with Keltara totally. Ask the people who actually have animals and have no issues....if horse trainers put sand in their arenas and round pens, why do you suppose that is?! Go ahead and put down a nice layer of straw. Let it get wet, add a little more....in six months you will have a slimy...
Be cautious with deer netting. Its easy for animals ( like your own dogs or cats ) to get caught in it unless its very tightly strung, and the stuff is unbreakable. It will cut into flesh and has the potential to create disaster. I speak from experience.
I would prefer to use more visible...
Okay Organick, point taken. Let me rephrase. If i had clay soil, and wished to amend it so it would be friable and useful as a potting soil, I would add organic matter and SAND. Sand allows excellent drainage. That is why pretty much anyone with horses and arenas or run uses so much of it. Its...
