Rooster to get hens to lay

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm down to 4, 2 Brahmas, of which 1 is pretty lame, our pretty Wyandotte and Rosie my RIR/Leghorn cross. She's been a great layer. I'll hope for a few eggs from the Old Girls possibly this year. I've got the run prepared for newbies. As soon as they come in @...

Rooster to get hens to lay

Is it true that bringing a rooster in to a flock that has stopped laying will cause the hens to have the urge to lay? My hens are are 5 + 4 yo. Last fall they molted, got mite treatments, feathers are all back but nobody has laid since October. Would introducing a rooster spur their urge to lay...

    Heat stroke?

Thanks. The Nustock worked well when I was first treating her. I've used the Permethtin, dust hasn't been available but the concentrate is easy to use. Just treated their run & roost, new poultry bedding with the DME. New straw next week . I'm trying the Ivermectin as a break from the other on...

Sorry such a long reply. But it's been a journey

    Heat stroke?

What I see under her feathers is fuzzy stuff at the base by her skin. That may be mites, so I just treated her & will give a booster next week. The scaly mites I gave her feet a soak in Epsom salts & disinfecting soap. Then used the pine tar stuff and wrapped her feet to keep it clean. (Not easy...

    Heat stroke?

I'm not sure if this hen can be rehabilitated. She came back after an attack of scaly leg mites, but not 100%. I've posted before - 5 yo Brahma hen, Sis. She got very down during our killer heat wave this summer. I didn't notice that she wasn't eating, and probably not drinking until it was...

    Very sick hen

Tough question to ask you all. How do you put a chicken down the most humanely? My 5 y.o. Brahma hen, big Sis has been struggling since last fall. I got her past a scaly mite infestation, but she never came back 100%. Now a month ago, she started to go downhill. Didn't want to scratch or free...

    Rooster gashed my hen.

I know exactly what you mean. Feathers really complicate things - especially when you're a rookie chicken vet 😜. I love my Brahmas but would never have a feather footed breed again.
