I have two horses on my farm and I pretty much do what your doing although they are plodders so they just hang around the paddock, horses will pretty much eat anything that's in front of them, especially if they are like mine. Make sure they have a clean water source and natural shelter (e.g...
I have plenty of ideas because I live on a farm in Australia, we tend to have a high fence around pens and a sheltered place with a perch for sleeping, also when building a pen be sure to bury the wire 60cm into the ground so wild animals can't dig through. Also is you have dogs they tend to try...
It depends on the chook, we have a few hens that absolutely loves us and follows me around like a dog but some just decide their too good for humans and go solo, sometimes it's something that went wrong when they were younger or they just want to be independent.
hi, me again,
Just this morning another chook died mysteriously (you may have seen my first post) and I'm worried there will be another PLEASE if you have any idea what it could be then please tell me immediately, I absolutely love my chooks
We always have brooding hens, it's really common in our pen. When we have a broody hen and they don't get off to eat it usually means they are determined to hatch the eggs, I always think it's best to seperate the hen and her eggs from the other chooks so she can relax more, but this should be...
I live on a farm in Australia and the closest we get to coyote here is foxes. To prevent wild animals from getting in I always recommend when building a pen, bury the wire no less than 60cm deep, this WILL stop the wild animals from digging under (I hope this helps). Chooks can died from stress...
Thank you for your help, I live in Australia (I will be sure to put it in my profile) he have 11 chooks at the moment, large coop with lots of hay for warmth, we feed them grain e.g. Oats, since we live on a farm, they have a large low container of water that I make sure is full every night...
i live in Australia and they have a very large coop which was an old shed, there is always plenty of hay and warmth, but lately the weather has decided to hit sudden cold in the middle of summer. Would that make them ill?
This is such a great idea I've never seen it done before. Although I do prefer my hens to hatch their eggs naturally I still put them in a secluded spot where other chooks won't disturb them, but this has given me a great idea
