    Bare chicken butts

I don't even have a rooster. I'll have to check closer for mites. Not sure what I'm looking for but if they can be seen with the naked eye I'll have another look. Thanks.

    Bare chicken butts

We haven't had much snow here in Kansas and my chickens have been outside a lot. With yours missing neck and back feathers it sounds more like molting. I haven't experienced it but it is when chickens lose and replace their feathers. I'm sure there are plenty of posts about that with pictures...

    Bare chicken butts

I've noticed that some of my chickens, mostly the Plymouth rocks are missing the feathers around their bottoms. They still lay eggs and don't act out of the ordinary they just have really red bare butts. I don' think the other chickens are doing this. I'm sure somebody has seen this before. Any...

    Chicken found with head missing

I don't close my coop door at night and I may have to start. I just tried to make the pen so hard to get in that I didn't have to. Don't always get home at the same time every night. Thanks.

    Chicken found with head missing

That's a good idea. I didn't take any pictures. Just a chicken with no head and not really any blood to speak of. A coon or Opossum is a good guess I just don't know how they could get in over my fence. I know they climb but I have electric fence top and bottom and the top is sticking out so...

    Chicken found with head missing

They were in the hen house at night and it is attached to the run. I checked on them before bed. My nesting boxes are inside the coop so no getting in from the bottom of them. There is no sign of any digging under the fence. To climb the fence a predator would have to scale a 6 foot fence and...

    Chicken found with head missing

I don't have netting on the top of the run but they were inside the coop when it happened at night. A hawk would have had to go inside through a chicken size door in the middle of the night and bite off a head and leave without making a mess. I'm wondering if the chicken died and then the other...

    Chicken found with head missing

I have a six foot welded wire fence with electric wire top and bottom. I really dont see how anything could get in and never see any tracks around the pen.

    Chicken found with head missing

Twice in the last month I have went into my chicken coop to find a dead chicken with it's head gone. I have a secure coop and there is no sign of a predator. Not really any blood or scattered feathers, just missing it's head. Could the other chickens be doing this? It is a one year old hen. I...

Do Bantams get along with full size chickens?

I've had several full size chickens for quite awhile now. Buff Orpingtons and Plymouth Rocks. I was thinking about getting some Bantams! I was wondering if they would get along with the big ones and not get picked on? Another thing: What kind of roosters do you suggest. I want a somewhat nice...
