Cold Weather Climes, Do You Insulate the Coop?

Thanks guys, I'll do some reading. I'm leaning towards not insulating. Our previous birds lived in the garage which is un-insulated and un-heated. We did get about a week of sub-zero and the roo ended with a little frost bite on the very tips of his comb, but other than that they seemed to fare...

need advice on using a covering for plywood floor of coop

Did you use the epoxy on the side walls also? Just curious if it would stay put, or run down before curing.

Cold Weather Climes, Do You Insulate the Coop?

I'm in the process of framing the coop and just trying to decide whether to insulate. I'm in CO at 9000' and it does get pretty cold, but it seems like since your venting the coop so much, insulation might be a waste. Whats the thoughts on this.

need advice on using a covering for plywood floor of coop

Yeah, the more I think about, the less I want to spend that much. Probably would be better for area's that get hosed down on a regular basis. Coop probably doesn't need that level. I'll most likely go with lino for the cost also. Not quite to that stage with the coop build yet.

need advice on using a covering for plywood floor of coop

I'm toying with the idea of Polymax HDPE panels for mine. They are pretty pricey, but ideal for farm/animal use, can be hosed down, and will probably last forever, well maybe not forever ;)...

    Mandarin Duck advice

Dang I just bought 4 eggs, wish I had read this first. Since I don't currently have a broody, and will have to incubate the whole time, do you incubate just like other duck eggs? Should I mist them the 1st week? Not trying to hijack just seemed like a good thread to ask ?'s about mandarins...

    Coffee Grounds???

Mine are mixed with the rest of the scraps, and they eat them just fine. Not sure they'd eat just a pile of grounds only, but when mixed the don't seem to mind.

Coop at Hensley's Settlement in Cumberland Gap National Park

Wow, that's pretty cool. I'm actually working on my version of a "Chicken Cabin" which will look very much like that one. Just now getting the logs peeled but should be stacking them pretty soon. I'm even using the "Butt & Pass" style like that one. So the nest boxes aren't accessible from the...
