how much to butcher a hog?

We just had 4 butchered a few months ago. We paid $10 kill fee plus .40 a lb to the butcher. I sold 2 1/2 at $2.00 a lb. I kept 1 1/2 for us. I lost money on this and will probably not raise anymore myself. I will buy one ready to go next time. Kris

    Bringing home the bacon!!!

I never shut mine up. They were in a 3-sided shed type building with lots of hay. It was during fall and winter. They are in the freezer now. But I don't think it's necessary to close them up at night.

What are you giving up for Lent (if anything)??

I am not Catholic, either. But I do observe Lent. I did not know that it was a Catholic thing. But I have given up sweets. I am a sweet-a-holic. Have to have sweets every day. Right now I am trying to make the sweet craving go away. So I'd say this is a real sacrifice for me. One year I gave up...

Oldest Milk EVER - Girls love it.

I have always given my chickens milk. After I make cheese, they get that, too. I just need to find like a cast iron pan to put it in so they don't knock it over. That's the only problem, they'll all be going at it and spill it. I hate wasting anything. They even get all the kitchen scraps now...

We had to kill one little BR the other day after almost 2 weeks of isolation and antibiotics. She never got better. Now this week I had to...

Help with buying a dairy goat?

I have 5 Lamancha does. I LOVE them all. Thay are the best goats for me. They are quiet and very gentle. Not a lot of trouble. Great milkers. Give tons of milk. And beautiful colors and patters.
