    Help me choose a Roo!

Hello, I have a friend that ended up with 5 Roos. She cannot keep them all. I told her I will take one to help her out 🤦‍♀️… I have 13 hens and no Roos at this time. I’m torn between the White Plymouth Rock Roo or the Buff Orpington Roo. Does anyone have an opinion of either breed?

    Yellow foamy poop sick hen!!

2year old RR hen had yolk all over her yesterday. After a warm bath I was able to pull out a broken soft shell egg. Today she’s lethargic and her poop is yellow foamy. Is it worms? Or infection?? coccidiosis? Any info is greatly appreciated…

    Chicken stopped laying

Having the same issue. Got 4 new hens in April (one ended up being a roo) my Wyandotte started laying 18 weeks. Both Americana started at 21 weeks. I got a few blue eggs over the month of Sept/Oct (not many) I haven’t seen a blue egg in almost 4 weeks. Everyone else (1yr 7mos old hens) is...

    Clean run after round worms

Thanks. I haven’t had any issues until recently. I am usually on top of things. I have tons of space, feed and water them well. They were just under a very stressful situation with a very over bearing rooster that was dragging them around by the combs and attacking them. (Was not mating...

    Clean run after round worms

Thanks. This was a bit of a nasty infestation. I’ve never had to deal with this. I clean coop, run twice a week. I’m thinking they picked worms up free ranging. Anyway. Treating them for worms and cleaning.. again! Lol. Have a great day!

It is REALLY windy and my chickens are screaming what should I do? QUICK PLZ

I use a tarp on two sides of my run to stop winds in the winter. Try using a tarp, old blankets or something like it. Put the tarp on the direction that the wind is hitting the coop/run. You should only tarp/blanket the run. They will be fine in the coop. Then you can take it down once the...

    Clean run after round worms

Hi, I’m sure this has been asked but I can’t find a post. Should I spray a disinfectant in my run after treating for round worms? My run is 240+ sq ft for 10 hens. I use a sand base and mulch topping in the run. I will take the top layer of wood chips/mulch off to clean. Should I spray with...

First winter storm & lessons learned

I’m learning lessons as well. New to chickens and it’s currently -2 with wind chill of -26. I’m now seeing we’re my coop has some cracks and crevices that may need fixing though I don’t think there’s much draft from them. The coop is 16 degrees with one heat lamp on. I just checked on them and...

Any prep necessary for -18f degree night with wind chill -45?

Only 1-2” of snow but winds gusting as high as 70 mph. wind chills as low as 40 below zero. Very unusual for us. I’m halfway between Erie and Pittsburgh we usually get lake effect snow

Any prep necessary for -18f degree night with wind chill -45?

Hopefully that weather won’t last! I think you’re doing just about everything you can for your chickens. It won’t hit my area (western Pa) until Friday morning. I’m glad we won’t get as cold as the north central states are getting. Best of luck to all!
