After looking through these threads, I am amazed!!!
I once bought 3 EE/"americanas," and 2 out of the 3 were cockerels.😭 They both had brick rusty red coming in through their wings around 4-6 weeks. One crowed at 4 weeks, the other at 8, their combs reddened up by the time they crowed as well...
Howdy neighbor! I'm at ~7,500 elevation out here with a mixed flock of Wyandottes, Welsummers, Easter Eggers, Russian Orloff, and Barred Rocks. They all do very well for me with our weather, even the single combed gals.
My Wyandottes and Bared Rocks are the best layers with Easter Eggers...
Close to 12 weeks-ish? I'm leaning pullets based on the hackles, but there's still time for change. 😅 I think the silver one is pretty safe to call it though! 🎀
Interesting that the golden has that single comb! What do her parents look like?
I have silver fox too! I just got them in September, and I'm falling in love. Still a chicken mama at heart though. Haha!
You're right, MessyLove. I have't found anything great in the Other Pets & Livestock section of BYC. If you started a thread, would be happy to join in on the fun!
I have 7 month old kittens in my chicken run, which is now rodent free. The kittens lived in the same zone as the coop & run and everyone got to acclimate & adjust under my supervision. The chickens were already used to outdoor cats too, so it was more to ensure the kittens weren't going to be a...
Aw I missed this in April too. I lurk without signing in most of the time :idunno
Now that its the end of October, the chickens get to enter the garden! Its on my north side and gets more sun in winter, and theyre free to any leftover herbs that i didnt harvest!
The Wyandottes have claimed...
I love this thread :D I have 5 Wyandottes from 4 different origins -- 2 silver, 2 gold, 1 blr. They're docile divas 💅 and my some of my favorites in the flock. For me, they tend to stay out of the drama but hold their own.
Originally, I only had one gold laced amongst 2 pairs of 2 other breeds...
Hey there! I'm sorry your shipped eggs didn't make it! I have a gal who went broody last year, and I'm excited to let her be a mama this year if all works out too.
I'm in Colorado, outside of Denver with an Easter Egger rooster. I'd be happy to sell some fertilized eggs if you're interested in...
Those big red combs, those splotchy colored feathers, and those red shoulders on 2 +3... :th
The second set of chickies at least have less red combs, but I would lean towards cockerels on them too because of the splotchy coloring.
What luck! I was there last year with 2 out of 3 EEs that were...
For barred rock, I believe the boys have more white on the top of their heads down to their necks, so I think you've got a gal there!
I've only had 2 wyandotte chicks (so far muahaha), but they've both been spunky gals, so you'll just have to wait.
For "americanas"/easter eggers, ugh idk. I...
This is a fun thread. Love the ideas and can't wait to see pictures after things warm up and wake up!
I built my coop in an area with an established juniper tree and lavender. They love hanging out under the tree, but I get nervous about the dust bath craters forming around it. 😅 They stomp...
I have a week old baby Wyandotte whose neck started hanging/drooping today, usually downwards but sometimes down and to the side. She's tiny compared to the two EEs in the brooder with her, but she's eating, drinking, and getting about. Poop is normal. Aside from her tininess and drooping neck &...
Similar situation here! Peach and Petunia are my ROs, and they're just sweet, jolly, funny, and docile. Petunia is a little punky, but overall they're both such great hens! They're also low in the pecking order.
They're mean to the younger batch, but I think they're just trying not to creep to...
