OMG - The cost of a chain link fence run !!!!!!

We did ours with the 7' high chicken wire and reinforced it with 48" high field fence to keep out the heavier predators. It wasn't much $$ with the chicken wire and we already had leftover field fence (it's usually pretty easy to find in <100 increments from leftover fencing). From there it was...

I went with Meyer Hatchery. I ordered from there last year, had great service, good shipping and all birds arrived healthy and happy.

    Leaving coop door open?

We don't even have a door on our coop. Our run is predator proof and they put themselves up at night and they're out as soon as the sun touches the horizon in the mornings.

The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

I've checked on that and there aren't any farmers here who do organic grains anywhere near me. Co-ops is all there is around here. It's NE Florida.

The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Is anyone else dealing with Countryside raising their prices nearly every month it seems? Our co-op was just told that there will be another $1 increase on bags March 7th. We feed all organic, but heck, it's getting very expensive rather than just pricey!

I ordered 6 chicks from Meyer last year and all were sexed correctly and breed correct. This year I have 26 coming from them.

Raising Urban Chickens in Jacksonville, FL

I signed the petition. We live on the far northeast side of Jacksonville surrounded by horse farms, cattle farms and plenty of hobby farmers. We currently have 2 horses, 2 goats, 3 dogs and 14 chickens with not a peep. However, we really do live out in the sticks area so there's not going to...

Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Okay so I returned my cockerel this weekend to the breeder. He apologized and told me that it's the first sexed bird he's ever messed up on. When I purchased the bird, there was no color on the wings or back, it was just blue. So I went to go exchange and ended up with another in addition...
