Everybody who died naturally were hens, only because roosters usually end up in my freezer. Strawberry died suddenly over night, I don't know why. She was only a year old and the other one, Miss Penguin, had a stroke and died three months later, also only a year old. Berta and Herby were...
I managed to get all nine chicks to stand still for a few seconds. 😁 They are two weeks old now and all happy and healthy. Mom really did an outstanding job by hatching and raising so many babies. I am proud of her. ❤️
Great idea! I left the egg in there for training purposes but going to take it out soon. I already installed a heat lamp after your advice. They just don't fit under her anymore lol. She started to look like a giant tumor with legs and heads. The parents are still feeding them bugs and stuff and...
Hi,
my Buttons are currently raising nine chicks. They should be two weeks old next Wednesday. Today I found my male in the corner of the back of the cage making strange noises and the female answered. He got up and there is an egg! She is now sitting on it and building a nest! Is that normal...
So sorry to hear that! I only got two females out of ten last time. Hopefully you find someone who takes the males. If you are lucky, your hen goes broody and hatch some more hens. Best of luck to you!
I take everything back! Dad Button quail is really growing into his role. He went from pulling babies feet to feeding them and is now sitting on two babies. It just took him some time to get used to being a dad. Don't give up if your male is not great with chicks from the start! ❤️
I had a trio of one male and two females. It didn't work out, even though they grew up together. It's a hit or miss. The male liked one female better and suddenly started to attack the extra. I have two pairs now. I think this is the most natural way for them to live. My two extra males got...
It could be nine chicks my button quail hatched, just found another empty shell. That means all of the eggs she sat on hatched. Wow. Here is some of them, they all look like their father. Should I provide an additional heat source later on? Because dad doesn't care about the chicks. But since he...
My button quail just hatched her first chicks and I have no idea how many. But she is doing an amazing job so far. They are all under her. Maybe you can see a tiny fluffy butt under her. I am so happy. 😍 Already changed the food to something more appropriate.
My button is sitting on eggs too and the male couldn't care less. He is not acting aggressive towards her, but she doesn't want him near her nest. I hope everything turns out fine for you. You just have to wait and see how he reacts to the chicks and if he's bothering the hen.
