    Introducing a new Roo!

Just want to warn you that even in the city we do have occasional racoons or someone will have a ferret get loose as well as hawks and loose dogs to watch out for that can kill the chickens.

is it okay to have kits (baby ferrets ) around my eggs?

NO!!!!!! OH my gosh!!!! I chased a ferret looking critter along a fence one morning after he ate at least three of my chicks!!!! Oh NO!!! I wouldn't risk loosing the chicks!!!! There was a small hole in the cage and even though it was a large ferret looking animal it managed to pull the chicks...

is it okay to have kits (baby ferrets ) around my eggs?

Oh my gosh I would definitely say no. I had several young chicks in a pen and a ferret looking animal ate at least 3 of them. I chased it away along a fence one morning. I think he ate my chicks!!!

Thank you so much. I tried to not get attached to them but I know I can't keep them the way I have them here and this situation he is offering sound ideal.

    3 roosters and 6 hens

I had the sweetest Barred Rock Rooster named Sweetie Pie and he would follow me and let me pick him up and hold and pet him. One day though he decided to take a liking to my leg even though he had several hens about. I ended up with a few bloody spots around my ankles and lower legs by the...

Will my roosters be ok if added to a flock of hens?

Most of them get along except those two. They did fight to settle who is the head guy but that's about it then they settled down. I was concerned they might get more aggressive after being around the hens though. I really need to get rid of as many as possible because of the location and the...

Will my roosters be ok if added to a flock of hens?

The dominance squabbles usually don't last long either. Then they stop fighting.

Will my roosters be ok if added to a flock of hens?

Usually it would be a dominance squabble then stop but those two looked like they were going to fight to the death. I had rearranged them in the pens to try and quiet their crowing after two days of almost constant crowing. When I went back out about an hour later two of them were bloody and...

Will my roosters be ok if added to a flock of hens?

Thanks for the reply. I'm hoping they will make groups or flocks on their own alright. I do wonder if the person really has that many birds and it sounds a little weird but if they have enough land they might. I am in a position where I am needing to try and rehome them or send them to the...

My Husky is killing my chickens and ducks, I need help!

I would suggest buying an electric fencer and stringing a wire for it around the area your chickens are in. It should sting your dog when he touches it and that would teach him not to go into that area probably the first time. You could run a couple of wires one higher than the other if you...

Will my roosters be ok if added to a flock of hens?

I did let the person adopting them know they are fighting and had to be separated and they asked how many roosters they could get so they would bring the right amount of cages but said they would not fight when with the hens because they would have plenty of hens and be free ranged. I'm needing...

Will my roosters be ok if added to a flock of hens?

I am rehoming 6 or 7 of my roosters. The person who wants them says they have 60 hens and plan to have 200 hens. They say they will provide so many hens that the roosters will not fight. Is that true? I have had to separate them as they matured and began fighting into groups that do get...

High moisture in exsteme cold: any way to reduce it?

There is a concern as to the gases in the air from running propane. They can kill humans so definitely would kill birds. Keep in mind they use birds to test for poison gases before they put humans into an area usually. I asked my son who has used propane often to throw heat into his house and...

High moisture in exsteme cold: any way to reduce it?

I thought they sold some kind of product called dry basement but didn't find it. I did find this article https://www.doityourself.com/stry/3-types-of-moisture-absorbers-explained but I don't know if any of those would be practical for your area. Running a dehumidifier does work some but then...
