    If it is hens eating them, the nest will be wet or sticky. Sounds like a snake to me.

    Probably not. But don't use oil based. Fumes are horribile and take forever to go away.

    Sounds like he needs to run into Uncle Frank (357mag) or Aunt Lucia(40mmauto). They take up the slack for this old, small, defenseless looking guy.
