I put their water in a container like this with a lid and inside the larger tub to catch spill but they still manage to drag/dribble water out and get shavings absolutely SOAKED for half of their coop, so I have to change shavings constantly
I put their water in a container like this, inside a larger plastic tub, but they still manage to dribble and spill water all over the surrounding shavings, so shavings in half of their coop is SOAKED
Hi all,
I know there are many threads about giving ducks water overnight but they didn’t answer my questions given my particular setup.
I have 5 Rouen females. I live in Maine. The previous owners of our house had ducks and had a small room/coop at the back of the barn for them so I am using...
Thanks for the info and I’m sorry to hear about your girl’s struggles! All 5 of mine are producing eggs now. They started the last week of February. It seems staggered at this point so some days we have 5 eggs, some 3, some 4. We live in Maine so it’s still winter so they may not be fully up to...
Actually yeah that’s what I have, brewers yeast and it has some garlic in it, I gave them some this morning when I thought about niacin, just wasn’t sure how often I need to add that, I’ll look into it thanks!
I do have a garlic powder supplement designed for ducks that has extra niacin, I give it to them occasionally but not often. I know there’s niacin in the flock raiser feed, and I do give them all a scoop of peas every night or so when they go to bed. Only 1 of the ducks is having this stumbling...
Hi there, I have 5 Rouen ducks, about 9 months old. They are fed Purina Flock Raiser and they have plenty of water all day.
Today I noticed one of them stumbling, like a see saw, forward and backward. She’s eating and drinking normally and moving around a lot.
I’ve attached a video. Any ideas...
I do wear gloves when cleaning their coop out but not when changing their food or water, or rinsing/cleaning the food/water bowls. I do use hand sanitizer regularly after handling their stuff and always wash up right when I come in, but maybe I’ll start wearing gloves for the whole thing, thanks!
Yeah that’s what’s weird, I am very clean about the whole thing. I have a hand sanitizer caddy on the side of their pen and use it very often and then also wash up when I come in! Very strange. I just can’t think of any other reason why this is happening to me now after never having it before...
Hi there,
I have five 3-month old Rouen ducks. Within the past 2 months I’ve gotten a MRSA Staph skin infection which I’ve never had before. I had it during the month of august and it cleared up with antibiotics and special soap, but today it came back.
The only new factor in my life has been...
Hi all,
I have 5 Rouen ducks, 7 weeks old. I moved them outside to their coop on Friday and they are doing great. Today it’s raining for the first time and I noticed they aren’t going inside to stay dry or warm. I went into the coop (it’s a fully enclosed room at the back of our barn) and...
They all seem good :) I was reading online that starting at 2 weeks their peeps might start to become a half peep half quack so I think that’s all it is. I’ve continued keeping their enclosure clean, they have a new waterer like the style you use, with holes in the lid of a Tupperware container...
I have them on pine shavings and I clean out damp and poopy shavings a few times a day. I’ve also been laying down towels for them and those do get damp but I’ve also been changing those out a couple times a day and washing and putting clean dry ones in. Last night I removed the towels all...
I’ve given them a slightly warm bath and some water in a deep dish so they can dunk their bills but a few of them still sound stuffy. Can ducks get a cold? Or is this just their voices changing? Their usual nasal whistling sounds slightly honky!
