Feeding hen that are not layingiva

Sorry about that Lone Oak. Didnt mean to be too sarcastic but like I said these girls have stopped laying. It has been 8 mos. Give them scratch it has everything they need? Scratch is candy. Why would I give a non laying bird triple calcium. The Dumor grower finisher has 15percent protein...

Feeding hen that are not layingiva

Got some good advice here about my hens that have stopped laying. Give a feed with less calcium and a moderate amount of protein. Went to Southern States because you can get some things out of bulk. Only 2 chickens. 50 lbs feed is too much. The girl I spoke to was no help at all. First she...

    Feeding menopausal hens :)

Ok higher protein with grower than flock raiser? Which do I choose? Bag is running low. Is it like with geriatric dogs where you may not need as high a protein content but a higher quality more digestible protein. Gotta go tomorrow for more feed. Thanks

    Feeding menopausal hens :)

Ok I will adjust. Cost is not really an issue, only three ladies. What is the difference between grower and flock raiser? Puppy chow vs dog chow?

    Feeding menopausal hens :)

I guess I was thinking of the additional calcium that they maybe dont need as much of now and does the kidney issue come into play again with the older bird as it did with those too young? Thanks

    What is the best feed

How old are your birds? If they are actively laying you should feed layer crumble or pellet. I think it goes like this. From hatch to 8 weeks feed chick starter. From 8-18 weeks, maybe a little longer if they are slow maturing purebreds feed grower then switch to layer. Mine really like...

Not sure what to do for chicken that has wandered up to my house.

Do you think I am being sappy when I say maybe someone is missing her? Have you tried fliers at your local feed store or around the neighborhood.

    Why is Purina feed "bad"?

That is Countryside Organics. I was so excited when I learned they had drop points close to home. The ingredients sound impeccable. But............the chickens didnt like it. Th The people were great. But...........the chickens didnt like it at all. Too powdery and they really didnt want...

    Southern States vs Purina Layena

Is there any difference between Southern States Layer and Purina Layena. I tried the Countryside Organics and thought things would be fabulous. They didnt like the peas or the meal consistency. They dont really even like the scratch I got from them. It actually had alot of powder in it. The...
