    Breed and color questions

Hello! So I am getting this black and white drake. The seller is unsure on breed but it looks like a possible Ancona? I have 3 khaki ladies currently. Wondering how the babies and future adults might look with the color combo. I’ve tried the color genetics calculator but I’m not sure what to...

    Black Swedish hatchling crosses

Hi all! I’ve looked and looked for the possible outcomes, but I’m not finding specifics. We bought 3 black Swedish ducks from a local farm that was downsizing. As far as we know they only had black Swedish and khaki Campbell. Well we hatched some of the girls first eggs, for fun.. as I...

    7 chick gender questions!

Extremely 🤣 I would love one of each. My appenzellers, I already have 1 fully grown. And 1 of the 3 chicks I have, 1 is definitely a female. But these 2 I think are male. I just know they’re more experience people on this board with appenzellers 🤣

    7 chick gender questions!

Hey everyone! So I have strong hunches but I’d love if someone with strong knowledge has any opinions. Regardless of the outcomes, I am able to keep all cockerels where I’m at and honestly I’m hoping some of these are!! 1 & 2 - 5.5 week Columbian Wyandotte - hopeful 1 is cockerel and 2 is...

    Speckled Sussex

Please excuse the status of their brooder 😅 I clean it once a day and haven’t yet today. They also completely obliterate it after 5 seconds. So the one that’s more feathered, is so much bigger than the other! These were the best pics I could get because these 2 are feral!!

    Mixed flock- young chicks

Just trying to get idea of what they could be! I know it’s still early so to be 100% certain I know I need to wait longer. Speckled Sussex 4 weeks old Columbian Wyandottes 3 weeks old. The darker one didn’t have tail feathers really until 2 days ago. The group of 3 Easter eggers are all 4...

    Speckled Sussex

I’m impatient with a capital I! Lol I know time will tell, but does anyone have a feeling on gender? I’ve read a couple threads in here that said the difference in cockerel vs pullets. I think I’m still too early to be confident in my guess. They are like a day or two tops from being 3 weeks...

    What colors can I expect?

Can you post an updated pic on these chicks? I’m considering breeding my Smokey pearl and I’d love to see what the offspring ended up looking like 😁😁

    Determining sex as chicks

Thank you! Yea both my Wyandottes (pictured) I believe are pullets at this point. And they’re actually quite different in a few ways.

    Determining sex as chicks

So I’ve seen a couple times people say when the wing length on one chick is much shorter than the other it might determine roo vs hen… Does this help determine sex when you have multiple of the same breed? Is it breed specific? Or just genetics? Example pictures of 2 I had. Still waiting to...

    Rotating roosters?

I absolutely will. Only 1 rooster is with my really small girls 5-9 weeks (he’s 5 weeks) And then my others are with the other 11. And they grew up together and thank goodness are mellow roosters. The legbar and salmon. They inevitably will be separated though. We actually have a 4th Roo...

    Rotating roosters?

Could I swap either the roosters for said hens out, our vice versa after let’s say… 3 months? Like 3 months with rooster A and hens 1-5. Then swap rooster A for Rooster B, OR swap hens for 6-10? Then 3 months with that group.

    Rotating roosters?

Considering rotational roosters… I have 3 currently, 3 different breeds. Should I leave certain hens with certain roos? Could I rotate them out or is that asking for trouble? I’m seeking some interesting colors on plumage and eggs. Breeds listed below, what do you think? I’m hoping to end up...
