    Thanks Mrsgibbers, just wanted to make sure I'm doing the right thing... or that not doing anything is the right thing. Nice coop, btw! I have to put one of those BYC pages together. Once I finish (err, umm I mean start) that run.

    Last weekend I finally finished the coop for my 6 quickly-growing 8-week old Best Reds. We put them in their new home on Sunday after dinner. For the roost, I attached a 2x4 stud across the length of the coop at 36" high. My wife thought there was no way in hell that they could make it up...

    If you know they're roos, and you know you're going to kill them, why not do it now? Or by butcher do you mean you're going to eat them as well?

    I'm thinking of building a 4' tall run but building the top of it so that it is on hinges so that when you wanted to get in to clean it, you just swing open the top. Has anyone tried this??

    Remember too that after you frame the walls, a 5x5 coop becomes a 4'5" x 4'5" coop. I thought a 4x8 coop would be plenty big enough for the six ladies we have waiting to move in, but after I put the walls up and got inside it, I realized why everyone says to always build it bigger than you...
