UPDATE 09/17/12
I still have no idea if Aabbee ever had cocci or not. The treatment with Corid definitely seemed to help her, as she stopped being fluffed up all the time and was just more active in general.
Since then she has always been the smallest but she really has no other problems...
We used medicated starter and then switched to Organic and I would do the same again for sure. Even with the medicated started one of our chicks got what I presume was coccidiosis. I treated with corid and she got better so I assume it was a low grade, non-fatal cocci infection held in check by...
I've got two hens laying, one started on August 16th and the other on August 19th. The first egg was in the shavings in the floor of the coop, the second was in the sand in the run, the third was in their outer fenced area (their "yard") in the dirt, the fourth was back in the run in the sand...

Here is a list of all GM foods allowed on the market from the Union of Concerned Scientists website. You could theoretically make a balanced chicken feed without any of those ingredients, or...
It's working well for us. I just recently dug it out to put hardware cloth across the bottom of the run for increased protection against predators and rats and when I put everything back much of the sand had settled so it's mostly gravel/pea gravel on top now. I will go get a load of sand this...
We got two eggs yesterday, so both the light Brahma and the RIR are laying. We ate our first backyard egg yesterday morning, and it was fantastic.
Cheers!:)
The big egg is a grade a jumbo. She didn't lay again today, but the RIR walked right up to me and squatted today! Hopefully her first egg is not far behind :)

HA, wouldn't you know it - the day I post this is the day we got our first egg!
My wife was home with the kids all day yesterday and she said "Henny (light brahma) was in the coop a lot today making lots of noise. I peeked in there and she was in the nest box a lot. I checked the nest boxes...
Thanks for the advice - we've definitely been giving them fruit and veggie scraps, but I'll try to get them more water heavy treats. Their run is sand, they are shaded until around 1 or 2 in the afternoon and then I have blocked one part of the run with a metal panel such that the area under the...
Hi all,
I am going to run down my scenario and I would like you tell me if I am being impatient or if I need to make changes:
I have 4 hatchery pullets, RIR (23 weeks), Light Brahma (23 weeks), Dark Brahma (22 weeks) and a Salmon Faverolles (22 weeks). My RIR and the light brahma have had...
Call the national pesticide information center, they will know of the spraying event and if anyone has data on how it might effect your chickens they will.

Actually, I think I may have bought a different feed then the one described in the OP. I bought Buxton Feed Layer Pellets - they also use camelina meal and all the other ingredients are similar. I wrote to them about concerns regarding my pullets getting enough methionine, and they quickly...
please post back with what you find regarding the "completeness" of the feed mentioned in the OP. I just bought a fifty pound bag of it.
Thanks
