I had a broody I put 3 eggs under twice.Both times she hatched a single chick.{both female yay!} By 5 weeks babies were perching on roost along side mum completely unbothered.
I use hemp here in NZ and love it so soft and not dusty. I have a poop tray which has oil cloth on it. this gets shaken into compost daily and cloth hosed off. Zero smell.If there are poops in the hemp they are dry and easily scooped.
