    WOW!! So grateful and blessed to live in essentially predator free country.NZ. We do have a native hawk.I do know theretically we could have 1 here in suburbia.Never seen 1 in 50 plus years living in this house.Near to sea jutting out into harbour.

    I'm one of those weird people that uses a vacuum lol.Have an old corded one with soft brush and coop close to house.

    Broody hen hatched a chick. Need advice.

    I had a broody I put 3 eggs under twice.Both times she hatched a single chick.{both female yay!} By 5 weeks babies were perching on roost along side mum completely unbothered.

    Hemp bedding Question

    I use hemp here in NZ and love it so soft and not dusty. I have a poop tray which has oil cloth on it. this gets shaken into compost daily and cloth hosed off. Zero smell.If there are poops in the hemp they are dry and easily scooped.

    Oldest Hen Age and Breed

    Aww so sweet.She looks a little like my Petal who died aged 9.RIRxAraucana.Still laid 3 eggs a week aged 8.

    Yes more in countryside.Not in suburbs but certainly possible. Never seen one myself.[74 yr old]
