    Olive Egger Fun

My roo was a sweetheart. My hen is just very bossy. I did get her as a pullet so she's a little feral to start with.

    Olive Egger Fun

Funny you mention that because I have a pure BCM hen and this one behaves a LOT like her (bossy little bitches lol)

The combs on yours still look a little more like a pea comb, but I would give it a little more time to develop. The one I showed in the pic ended up being a roo, so his comb developed pretty quickly.

    Olive Egger Fun

I have a new olive egger that I got as a hatchling this year. My other olive egger and the other 2 that came in this batch are all much more grey. I know olive Eggers can be a variety of mixtures of different breeds, just wondering if anyone knows what mix I might be looking at?

I'm not an expert but the chicken at the front left of this pic is a BCM that I raised. Yours look like they probably are based on how mine looked at a similar age.

Advice on Transitioning from Brooder to Coop

So last night my chicks put themselves to bed for the first time! Very exciting lol. I think what helped is that the night before I grabbed the "leader" of the babies and put her inside and then the others followed her. Last night I went out to put them away and they were all snuggled in the...

Advice on Transitioning from Brooder to Coop

I also have an Eglu and I'm currently using it for my 4 chicks. Mine has the attached run. They've been staying out for about 3-4 nights now and haven't quite gotten the hang of going in at night but I just climb in the run and grab em up once they settle down for the evening (usually in the...

    Tail Feathers and other questions

That was my thought. A friend who took 3 hatchlings was concerned and I told them that it is probably very breed/chicken specific.

    Tail Feathers and other questions

I have bought chicks from a hatchery and hatched my own in the past, at different times. This is the first year I hatched my own and got some selected breeds from a hatchery. My hatchery chicks seem to be developing feathers (tail especially) more quickly than the ones we hatched (easter Eggers...

    Buff Orpington infrequent egg laying

We have a buff orp that is also a dud of a layer. She's a nice chicken and will live here forever but she started laying fairy eggs this year (a welcome respite from the soft shelled eggs she's been known for in the past!). All our other hens lay well and eggs are healthy so we think it's just a...

    Fairy Egg Layer

My buff orpington hen, Linda, has never been a very good layer. She has laid a lot of soft shell eggs in her life, lol. Now that she's around 3 years old, she's laying fairy eggs. The funny thing is, the shells on the fairy eggs are strong and normal, there's just no yolk. I'm assuming she's...

Brrrr it’s going to be cold outside 🥶🥶

I've been feeding my girls Kalmbach Layers reserve 17%. I supplement them with warm oatmeal with red pepper flakes and scrambled eggs. I have also been adding a little poultry cell to their water and giving them warm water twice a day to encourage them to drink. Everyone is doing well, I'm...

    Small incubator recommendations needed

I've been really happy with it! It just hatched some babies last week!

    Buff Orp and Rubber Eggs

Another rubber egg today, that's two in a row. I'm a little worried about her, but she is acting normally and eating and drinking so today I hid some oyster shell in oatmeal and gave it to the crew, and she ate it heartily. I'm picking up some calcium citrate pills to have on hand as well...

    Buff Orp and Rubber Eggs

Thank you, I thought of doing something along those lines. Most of her eggs are perfectly normal, so I will try supplementing her privately and see if the rubber eggs subside.
