Guidance needed: black color in wound

Thank you so much, I will pick that up today! Great advice! Should I still be tending to it multiple times a day or try to get it to dry out a bit? As far as the color goes, are you thinking it’s just very irritated tissue rather than necrotic tissue?

Guidance needed: black color in wound

Hi all, my chicken received an unfortunate puncture wound from a fox attack. This happened on July 4th which caused me to take matters into my own hands as far as injury care because everywhere was closed over the holiday weekend. I have been washing the area thoroughly at least twice daily by...

N No none, and I have not actively seen pecking.

    Is this vent gleet?

Hi All, my first year with chickens and my less than 1 year old Buff Orpingtons vent is looking like this for the last week. Is it vent gleet? No odor, no white oozing, just bloody at the top of vent and therefore causing a lot more dirt sticking to the area. Looking for advice on whether or not...

Advice Needed: Rehabbing a Chicken inside in the winter

I found someone to board my chicken for the winter (YAY!) thank you for the advice. Now looking ahead, my next question is.... If I get her back in the spring and slowly integrate her into the flock will she re-acclimate to the outdoor weather for next winter season? She will be outside and...

Advice Needed: Rehabbing a Chicken inside in the winter

That is a good idea, but I don't think she's ready to be outside with the temperatures getting really cold in the next week so I will have to wait until spring it sounds like. ALSO, just to clarify I have the same dog crate that @AGeese pictured above, it's huge!

Advice Needed: Rehabbing a Chicken inside in the winter

YIKES! That's not what I wanted to hear. But this wound was so bad there was no avoiding bringing her in. Hoping I have an easier time with re-integrating her, fingers crossed!

Advice Needed: Rehabbing a Chicken inside in the winter

She is still inside for a couple more weeks. I am not just leaving her out there in the dog crate. I can't move her out there with temps dropping, so my question is do I have a house chicken until spring? When it is time to move her out, I plan to put her out for a short amount of time in the...

Advice Needed: Rehabbing a Chicken inside in the winter

Hi, yes I know I need to do a slow re-intorduction to the flock. I plan to put her in the dog crate she has been in for rehab and put the crate in my covered run with the other flock members for some time. I am worried with her physical disabilities that she may have a hard time moving away from...

Advice Needed: Rehabbing a Chicken inside in the winter

I'm worried about the cold because she has never been through a winter before being under a year old. And now has missed a month outdoors with the temperature dropping. When I brought her inside, it was 50F and now when she will be ready to go back out it will only be 15 to 20F. Isn't this a...

Advice Needed: Rehabbing a Chicken inside in the winter

Hi All, I have a hen who is less than a year old and got attacked by a hawk and will now most likely have a permanent limp. She's been indoors for 3 weeks and likely needs just another week or two. Looking for tips on introducing her to the rest of the flock (only 5 other girls of the same age)...
