    To free range or not?

It’s true. All these comments have been really helpful. I think I actually have been able to do some mental work to accept their deaths. We do have three five year old hens, so really that’s pretty good for production breeds from tractor supply! Plenty of hens never make it to five. I want them...

    To free range or not?

I did occasionally see him work to keep the flock protected from aerial predators, but that seemed to be mostly when we only had four hens. Once we introduced the rest of them they kind of kept separate. The bobcat loss was one of our originals, but all the aerial loss was our newbies

    To free range or not?

I know this is controversial. And everyone has their own comfort levels with predators and dangers but I feel like I’m at a breaking point. We’ve had chickens for five years, started with a flock of five Orpingtons. We lived in the suburbs, they were in a small coop most of the time and free...

    Suddenly aggressive rooster

I think that’s kind of where I’m at. I know it’s silly, but I am the person that wants to pet and cuddle them. They love running to me and getting attention and it’s one of my greatest joys in life. I can also understand from his perspective why it’s a problem. I’m mostly worried right now about...

    Suddenly aggressive rooster

I think my ultimate goal is to have a flock of solely Swedish flower chickens. I haven’t had luck finding anyone that isn’t a hatchery that breeds them. Do you happen to know where I’d want to look if we looked for a Swedish rooster in the future with better genetics? Would posting on here get...

    Suddenly aggressive rooster

Thank you. That is helpful. So would you agree the best course of action for our young roo is to put him right with our older hens and have him learn some manners from them like the above person suggested?

    Suddenly aggressive rooster

honestly I think I’m just afraid that I somehow caused this behavior since he was supposedly fine before and it just started happening. Like maybe I was acting weird around him somehow? And I’d feel awful if it were my fault that he’s suddenly acting like a jerk.

    Suddenly aggressive rooster

So it’s better to get a chick and be hands off? I do have an accidental blue Orpington rooster that was sent with my Swedish chicks. I should put him out with my older ladies? This adult rooster from the get go was not able to get the respect of my adult hens. He wound have to pounce on them to...

    Suddenly aggressive rooster

TLDR: one year old rooster has suddenly started coming after me. Is it worth finding him a new home or should I find him a freezer? Hello all! I know there’s probably loads of posts about these dumb dumb boys who decided to be jerks but as this will probably be a life or death situation I...

    Hello from Vermont!

    (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? We got 5 buff Orpington pullets 4 years ago and recently moved to a bigger property and I was able to get more chickens ☺️ (2) How many chickens do you have right now? 21 (3) What breeds do you have? Buff Orpington and Swedish...
