Tried some cheap hygrometer/thermometres from Amazon, and no surprise they didn't do great. I sent them back. I'm looking at this one now:
It's still a digital one, and I am guessing that a dial version would be even more accurate, but I want something that I can use in my family's still-air...
Oh dear. 😂 I have the same problem with one of mine! My Welsh Harlequins lay white, as expected, but my Cayuga lays green instead of black. I knew that could happen, but I was really hoping for black. I do really like the green, though. It brings a tad of colour to my egg cartons that are...
I was thinking I would probably put something together for BYC with pictures of the sex-links if they go as planned. I've only read about this project, and couldn't find any pictures on it, so I thought maybe I would post some in case anyone else has been looking.
If all goes well, hatch day...
So...I just put 28 duck eggs in my incubator. Eighteen are Welsh Harlequin, which I expect white eggs from, same as I get from them now. Seven are Khaki Campbell x Welsh Harlequin, and three are Khaki Campbell x Cayuga. My female Cayuga lays green eggs, and I am curious what her daughters will...
I haven’t seen much like the scabs I see described online…could be swollen because of an injury. Mine are really good at breaking toenails. I’ve started trimming them because they have gotten so long over the winter.
I’m going to keep using the polysporin for now. It’s not making it worse and...
@Miss Lydia I'll keep that in mind. Could be hyperkeratosis, though I still lean towards bumblefoot. Is there something besides bumblefoot that would cause their back toes to swell? I've seen that in several of them, although I think perhaps it is improving with the polysporin.
@Jenbirdee, I don't have any pictures from when it started. I'm pretty sure it is bumblefoot...most of my birds look about the same. I haven't seen much of the tell-tale black scabs, which confuses me.
I noticed in one of my girls that she had a spot on her foot where it looked like she has...
Welcome to BYC. Hope you learn something helpful and have fun with your baby chick. Maybe you'll get more than you are expecting. My family has hatched out chicks with a few different broody hens, and have had some good experiences with them. A few not-so-good as well, but it's part of the...
Been battling bumblefoot for quite a while now. Just switched what I was using to treat, as my former salve wasn't being successful enough.
I started using Polysporin brand antibiotic ointment, the triple kind with 3 different antibiotics: Polymoxin B Sulfate, Bacitracin Zinc, and Gramadicin...
I've been treating my duck flock for bumblefoot, and I've noticed that the edges of their webbing is getting a little rough looking. I've attached a picture. Just wondering if any of you have seen this on your ducks, with or without bumblefoot simultaneously.
If your ducks have had it, do you...
Thanks for your reply and for sharing what you do, @gwboolean. Much appreciated.
Curious what makes you think mealworms aren't the best. I've read differing opinions, just wondering what yours is.
Thanks!
