My hen hates my coop :(

Just to clarify for all since I didn't mention it in the original post, the coop is not for the hen (and the friends that I will hopefully soon get her, since that seems to be a big part of the issue) to live in full-time. It is just for the below-zero winter nights and blizzards that we will...

My hen hates my coop :(

I mean I guess I don't know enough about what a good chicken coop should look like? My friend has like 50 chickens and their coop is sizable but windowless. My primary consideration is the elements and providing a place for them to roost at night (when it is dark anyway) and during blizzards. I...

My hen hates my coop :(

Ah okay. She certainly looks raggedy, but I suppose that is to be expected for a chicken in molt.

No weasels and the dog & cats keep predators away from the house area where the coop is. The coyotes got the other chickens when they were ranging far into the pasture during the past summer.

My hen hates my coop :(

She's lived outside pretty much her whole life since she came of age from being under the heat lamp inside (so about 18 months now) and has been the only chicken left for 3-4 months now.

My hen hates my coop :(

So after losing four chickens to coyotes this past summer (during the daytime when they would range widely into the pasture), I'm down to one hen. She is the "spookiest" one, i.e. always has been the first to run away / least inclined to be picked up, which is probably what kept her alive in the...

    New from Nebraska

Hello all, I live in northwestern Nebraska and have one hen, about 18 months old, that I raised from a chick (unsure of breed). I used to have five chickens but the rest all got taken by coyotes. I finally have a coop that should offer some protection for the one survivor (and if we get more)...
