How best to put a sick chicken to bed for the night?

A (sad) update for those who'd like to know: It did end up being Marek's, unfortunately. We took her to the local bird vet and she said she'd gotten several other cases of Marek's from the same farm we got them from as chicks. The farm that supposedly vaccinates all their chickens. They ended...

How best to put a sick chicken to bed for the night?

She's a bit separated from them in there, but not in a full nesting box yet, that's a good idea though, thank you!

How best to put a sick chicken to bed for the night?

Good to rule that out atleast! Thank you so much for the well wishes and support. Sorry to ask another question on top of all this, but if the hens are all kept together, do you think we should be worried about them attacking her as she's sick? I'd like to think they wouldn't, but I've heard...

How best to put a sick chicken to bed for the night?

Oof, hope its not Marek's too, thats an awful way to go... Their normal feed is a basic starter grower, but we give them a fair amount of snacks like cut oats, greens and yogurt. Should we be worried about contaminations in the food? Thank you for the response!

How best to put a sick chicken to bed for the night?

Thank you for the sympathy and quick response! We have a crate but its pretty big and will need to be kept out of their inner area. We will definitely put in bedding if we go with the crate, thank you for the great idea!

How best to put a sick chicken to bed for the night?

Thank you for the quick reply! If we put her in with the rest of them, do you think we should we keep her still wrapped up as it seems to bring her comfort? Thank you again.

How best to put a sick chicken to bed for the night?

Our ~5 month old Easter Egger has been stumbling and lethargic/out of it these past few days and has worsened today, continually missing when she pecks at her food and standing in an odd, wide-legged position. It shouldn't be Marek's as she and her whole flock have been vaccinated and other than...

Probably should! Maybe sometime soon if this doesn't abate.

    Germaphobe looking for advice

Upfront I should state that I am very much am (or rather was) a recovering germaphobe, I used to be much more intense about it before eventually calming down some years ago. This incident frankly fully reignited it. Recently our family went through a bit of a tragic chick saga with our first...

Recovering chicks on the edge and not learning how to eat or drink for themselves?

God that's rough, I'm so sorry. We eventually lost our last two a couple of days ago, not long after the post. Sometimes things just don't shake out right and I'm hoping we gave them the best care and comfort we could before they passed. We're gonna take a break from chickens for a while and...

Recovering chicks on the edge and not learning how to eat or drink for themselves?

We ordered a mix of 10 rarer breed chicks last week from Hoovers Hatchery through Tractor Supply Co. and we believe the shipping went particularly poorly due to some of the recent storms and bad weather. All seemed completely dead on arrival, the mailman handing the box to us even said they were...

Off to a rough start but happy to be here!

Hi All! This seems like a really great site and community! My mom and I have been checking out posts here for a while before finally joining recently. We're first time raisers going through a rather tragic chick saga right now, which I may post about in a separate area for advice soon...
