The necropsy found sporadic and spontaneous tumors throughout, primarily in oviductal or intestinal pancreatic origin. She was quite emaciated and a very sick chicken. We know this can happen more frequently in older chickens. We now more information for our flock and what to look out for. Thank...
Found a vet, who felt bloodwork. X-rays were needed to get to the source of the problem, and $$$. She wouldn’t give the antibiotic without knowing what was the cause. I’ve decided to euthanize her and have a necropsy done to ensure we don’t have a flock issue.😢
I was able to interest her in sugar water this morning and she drank on her own quite a bit, but still not interested in food, scrambled eggs or moistened feed that I offered. I gave her another dose of dewormer. I will see if I can talk to a vet today, she may need antibiotics. She’s hanging on...
Her crop is empty, although the picture shows her chest sticking out. She has perked up, so we gave her sugar water, probiotics and her third dewormer dose. She’s still not eating or drinking and no poop today. We offered scrambled eggs but only looked at it. She’s cooing and moving around more...
She’s taken a turn for the worse. I think there’s another issue here. She closes her eyes a lot and now laying down. She’s hanging on though. I gave her a second dose of dewormer and tried to give her electrolytes via syringe but she refused it mostly. I brought her outside for fresh air and...
Thank you. I haven’t been able to find dewormer for poultry, unfortunately. She’s still not eating or drinking. I don’t know how quickly the dewormer takes effect, but I am hopeful she will start to show more signs of life today. She did fight me on taking the dewormer, which gives me hope.
I provided the copper sulfate solution in her water for the past two days and I’ve offered her food that being cat food and regular layer feed. She was drinking plenty of water with the solution and after the second day, she stopped drinking as much and stopped eating. So I replaced the water...
Thank you for your reply. Today her comb is a darker red. She did not have a recent diarrhea and her crop was empty. I did leave water for her but removed food last night, except for a few pieces of rice, spilled from her bowl. We feed her various produce scraps with grit and oyster shells...
We believe our 2 1/2 year-old chicken who has stopped laying about at least six months to eight months ago as a new flock of chickens joined the flock is having sour crop. She was a little disinterested in food and shook her head a lot and lethargic eight months ago when we started using a...
Hi, my husband and I have seven chickens and have had chickens for at least four years now. Many times I’ve had to get information that this site has been most helpful for. We’re very excited to learn more as we go and grow in our aspirations for a mini farm. It’s pleasure to meet all of you.
