I did an 11 hour move with 8 hens and a roo. Wire dog crates lined with towels and a thin layer of shavings worked well, cardboard on the sides kept it dark. I covered crates with a tarp or blanket, left the front open for air, bungeed them down, and kept the rooster separate. No waterers...
