Yes exactly! I keep thinking it'll get a little bit easier with each one though, and so far it has not. It always seems to be whichever one I'm currently the most attached to that ends up dying as well 😭 my sweet Ghost was definitely the most social and charismatic and tenderhearted of my little...
Thank you for the kind words. They mean a lot to me 💗
And yes, that's another part of my concern is that if she was sick it might spread. I'm not quite sure what to be looking out for aside from odd behaviors... I guess I'll just have to keep a really close eye on them the next few weeks to...
It's a lesson I'm struggling to learn with them! In the five years I've been keeping hens, I've had one die to predation, two vanish without a trace (so probably a predator), and now with her, three who have just dropped dead without any warning or obvious signs of illness or injury. I love them...
Hi everyone. I'm really heartbroken today- I got home this afternoon and went into my yard to check on my chickens. Two of my three girls came running up to me, but my other one (Ghost) didn't. She usually is the first up to me unless she is sitting on an egg, so I went to look in her favorite...
I agree- a good spray bottle and a lot of yelling/clapping/stomping has my chickens pretty well trained to stay off the paved area at my house! It takes a lot of consistency and time (in my experience at least), but they eventually caught on. I also always keep a watering can right by my hose so...
My yard is already completely fenced in with six foot tall wooden privacy fences. They have no line of sight to my yard unless they're peeking through the cracks in the fence.
The problem is that I don't know for sure which neighbor it is, otherwise I would go talk to them today. If it continues to be an issue I'm going to have to just go around and figure out who it is and try and have a chat about it, but I'm honestly really hoping that as long as they stay quiet I...
Oh, I know. I'm going to do what I can to keep the girls quiet, but I'm very annoyed that this was their first resort instead of just coming and talking to us or even giving it one more day to see if it was recurring. I'm not going to let them push me around.
That's pretty much what I figured, but I just wanted some second opinions. I'm feeling very frustrated about the whole situation and want to make sure I'm doing anything possible to keep it from happening again. Thank you for chiming in!
I have had chickens for a few years now, but up until last week they lived at my parents' house. While they did live on the edge of their neighborhood and therefor had no houses directly behind them, they do have neighbors on either side of them (one of whom is notoriously over-eager to report...
I did have to google to see exactly what you meant, but that’s exactly what it is! Whether or not she’s supposed to have it, it doesn’t seem to be causing her any issues so I think it’s fine!
So I got a closer look/feel at it, and it definitely is like a pouch of skin along the front of her chin & neck, but its not hard or lumpy or fluid filled so I’m inclined to think it’s just a harmless quirk.
