    coop height?

I built my coop to the exact dimensions you state: 5'x5'x3' tall, it's about 3 feet off the ground. I really like that it has 3' clearance underneath. It allows me to go under there to adjust feeders, dust bath, etc. I DO NOT LIKE that it is 3' tall. I should have made it at least 4' tall...

    Runner drake with my chickens?

I've recently gotten into chickens. My wife wanted some ducks so when I bought the chickens, I bought two ducks as well. Well, here we are 6 weeks later, and both ducks are runners, one is definitely a girl, but the other is still peeping, and is slightly larger than the girl duck. The...

    moving to the coop

Lol I agree with this statement, especially the video part. I just put mine in the coop a week and a half ago. I kept them locked up for two nights then started letting them out on evenings and weekends. Most of the chickens would go in, but the ducks wouldn't. Tonight was the first night...

Scrubby scrubby on those little vents. I had two that needed it twice. After that it was all good.

    Coop ventilation?

Well, I guess I built my coop too short. Hopefully my chickens don't die of frost this winter as their heads will be about level with the bottom of the vent when they sit on the roosts. I saw all those shorty prebuilt coops and assumed mine would be giant compared to them. Shows what I know.

I couldn't resist. Here's a better pic of one of my girls. They are done being ugly and back to cute. Look like small chickens now.

    Coop ventilation?

The stilts stand about 5' tall. The front of the coop with the entrance is 3' from top to bottom including the screened in portion.

    Coop ventilation?

Thank you for the reply! I'll refrain from adding more vents unless the girls start to look hot.

What cute little fuzzballs. They look really fresh. The ducks grow MUCH faster than the chickens will. Here's a few of my little buggers at about 4 weeks old, ugly as sin but I still think they're cute. They're headed to the great outdoors this week.

    Coop ventilation?

Coop's almost done. Its approximately 5'x5' and 3' tall. It will house six chickens to start. As you can see the top is vented on the sides and in the front. I calculate about 6 sqft of venting. I'm in Greensboro, NC. Do I need to add more vents at the bottom or will this suffice? I'm...

ISA brown chicks are now about 21 days old. First trip out to the run today. They are starting to fly and they love to scratch around.

Bought 6 isa Brown pullets last week. I guess they are now about 11-12 days old. They are my first chickens ever. I bought them because they were good natured and good layers, but I didn't realize I was buying commercial laying hens until I found this thread! Here's hoping for lots of eggs...

    Is this a runner duck?

Thanks, Elizabeth. I don't know why but not knowing what kind of sucks these are was making me anxious. I assume all the birds are about a week old, as I bought them last Wednesday. When you say breed, do you mean sex or so you mean color pattern?

    Is this a runner duck?

Picked up a few chicks and some ducks at tractor supply. The chicks are ISA Browns, but the ducks were un sexed and not labeled for breed, and the employees weren't sure what kind of sucks they might be. So I've been trying to figure out what breed they are. They tend to stand up like this...
