This year I bought a DynaTrap insect killer. It attracks the bugs with a blue light and when they fly in to the blue light area they get sucked down in to a basket by a fan where they eventually die. I have a ton of dead bugs, tons of moths. Is it OK to feed the dead bugs to my flock?
Ok so over 1 month later another buff orpington is gone. I am reading they live to 5-7 years. They girls are all moulting (sp) so egg production is virtually halted.
I lost one of my Buff Orpingtons yesterday. She was 2 years and 5 months old. She was my biggest girl. With no rooster she ruled the roost. She was fine, my husband brought out cored apples (seeds removed) and 5 of our girls came running and she did not. He found her in the ground area of our...
I am pretty sure the green gaggy egg the shell might have been cracked and the hubby did not notice it. We give eggs to so many people they never sit long enough to go bad.
And anyone ever tried boiling their farm fresh eggs? Idk why but i am paranoid about it so i go buy eggs for that.
So i cracked an egg this morning and most of the time they are a nice and normal dark yellow yolk and very tasty. This time...i just threw it in the garbage. Now i have had one once that was green and stinky and made me gag and almost vomit. That went in the garbage only i couldnt do it. Was...
Well I ammsorry for no response I was not getting any notifications. They have more than plenty of room...in addition to their coop they have a 6'x15' covered run and 9 perches for 6 chickens. We were having issues with them not eating their food...so we switched back to what they had before and...
So I went out to check the girls' water and fill the feeder and I noticed blood on the feeder. Started looking and I saw some blood on the feathers of one. Started looking more and the back half of one of my buff orpintons combs is missing and she was bleeding a little where her back was pecked...
So, we switched feed from a mixture that saves money to the more expensive purina egg layer feed and I have noticed a huge increase in waste. With the old mixture if food hit the ground, they would eat it. With this new mixture there is so much feed all over the ground, I can not even see the...
Thanks...living in michigan I was worried how they will tolerate the cold. They are huge and I do know when I pick up one of my buffs and hold her close to my body she lays her head on my chest....they seem sweet.
Well the farm store I got them from just got a phone call. I know nothing about this buff orpington type chicken. I was really looking forward to Americaunas...from look to egg to personality. Thanks for the help on this.
So, I got chickens and one is finally laying. I was outside and heard a squawk so I went to check. My fattest "Americana" was in the nesting box brooding over her egg. I managed to snag the egg and replace it with one of my fake eggs but...the egg is tan. Americana's are supposed to lay green...
