The pavlovskaya came back in one piece 2 days later! I came home at dusk and the chicken run door was closed. She was laying in front of the door poor thing... I thought she was dead but she made a sound so I picked her up and put her in the coop. She is completely fine minus some broken foot...
Feeling down. 4 of my chickens went missing yesterday. One came back on her own and one was found in my neighbors yard across their old fence. Both seem unhurt, no limping or missing feathers. But two of my younger more unique breed girls are still missing (the pavlovskaya and the frizzled Mille...
So strange. I checked on Fanny this evening and she joined the other girls free ranging. I checked to see if she had laid an egg... nothing. I watched her for a little while and she did this strange stance where she fanned her tail out and stuck her wings out and down (like a bow) in front of...
Yes she used to roost with the other hens. She is quite bossy actually and doesn’t mind the big girls. The big girls have become indifferent towards her. She has actually roosted with the big girls on occasion. I have 3 separate roosts and all but one of the big girls always roost on the top...
I just checked on the chickens and found Fanny in the nesting box again. The other chickens have long since roosted. I wasn’t able to feel an egg in Fanny’s abdomen earlier today like I did the day before. Could she be broody after only laying one egg?
My first time layer frizzled serama was laying in a nesting box for trying to lay her first egg for over 24 hours only to get up and eat, drink and roost with the other hens. I was able to feel an egg in her abdomen. When I found her in the nesting box the next day, I decided to give her some...
It could just be normal too if she’s not doing it too much and if the stones she is vomiting out are smooth. It just means the stones she used as grit no longer serve their purpose and they are too big to poop out. But if she is doing it often... she may be eating too many.
Interesting! I don’t know much about ducks but I found this article that talks about the stones (Gastroliths) and of the stone become smooth pebbles then the bird will vomit them out. Perhaps the grit you are offering is too smooth? Or maybe the duck is ingesting too many of them so there are...
So sorry your first egg layer ever had problems! That’s some bad luck... I promise it’s not always like this... it’s actually common in first time egg layers apparently but not super common in general. Hope you got through it with the warm soak or gentle gasoline massage... let us know how it goes!
5th and 6th hen started laying!!! My light Brahma (Opal) and my other Easter egger (Beladora). I thought the light Brahma would lay a pink egg but it’s pretty light tan. But the Easter egger laid a perfectly pure blue egg I’m so happy!!!!
My third and fourth hen started laying! My Easter egger (Prudence) and then my gold necked d’Uccle (Clementine). Clementines egg was laid in a nesting box next to the one that the big girls lay in and she had covered the egg with shavings, how cute!
