Thank you :hugs it is very frustrating. Of course the ones that pass are always the favourites too. Insult to injury is that I just lost one of my call drakes a couple of days ago to a predator:hit when it rains it pours as they say.
The Silkies are on 4” of shavings, which gets cleaned...
I recently just lost one of my roosters; he was completely fine last night (following me around, eating, drinking, pooping, etc), and this morning, dead. The thing is, this is my 4th Silkie to pass in the last 2 months. Aside from one, all of them have been completely fine the night before (I’m...
They really are 😔. It would definitely be worth looking into investing in some kind of overhead protection then; for your current and future birds safety.
Calls can fly quite well (ours have ended up on the roof of our house more than once), so if you’re able to put up some kind of predator netting it would also help keep the calls in.
We finally found a few chicks to keep my lone Brahma chick company (the guy the batch was hatched for didn’t want it because it ended up being splash); 4 2-3 week old buff Orpington chicks that are just a little younger than my Brahma, 3 of which look to be hens :fl.
We brought them home, they...
I tried to get a picture of the other one too, but he’s even squirmier, so that didn't work. I don’t know what it is about the Italians from this breeder, but they're all very opposed to being held except my one big roo.
Alright... I’m stumped... what colour is this?
Hatched from celadon eggs, thought it was white because it was solid yellow, but then it’s pin feathers started coming in dark, and now it looks blue/silver?! One of the others I though was an Italian is also feathering in with this colour on...
This is my 3.5 month old cockerel; he doesn’t have a name yet, but we’re working on it. He’s SUCH a sweetheart. I don’t know how I ever went without having Silkies before ❤
Unfortunately I hatched 80% roos this year, so amid the pandemic I have to find someone who still has hatching eggs...
I’m up to 13 babies now and have 3 more due in the next few days, then 2 more groups of 2 for a total of 20 goslings... then I’m done! The incubator has been running for over 3 months straight, I'm ready to be done.
On the plus side, I’m at a 100% hatch rate on my fertile eggs, and I learnt my...
For anyone looking back at this later on, in case they’re wondering what colours their chicks will be...
#1 did end up being blue cream/porcelain (I don’t have any current pictures of her).
#2 was a splash (roo - sold)
#3 and #4 ended up being Moorhead silver partridge, one Satin and one...
Lavender needs to breed to lavender to make more lavenders, so putting one in your BBS pen isn’t ideal if you’re trying to breed lavender (you would need a whole separate colour pen for that one). I believe the lavender gene can be carried by black, but that chicken would only have one copy of...
