    Turkey Poult Eye Infection

Hi guys, so I returned home after a 2 day visit to family, only to find one of my poults with a very nasty swelling on its eye. The poults are 7-8weeks old, and semi free range. There doesnt seem to be any discharge, but she doesnt have use of the eye anymore, from a quick examination whatever...

Can more than one hen raise a brood?

Ahh, that makes sense!! I myself am a vegetarian, hence why we send the boys off to the farm to get fat ready to eat or get big ready to breed more meat or egg animals. I am aiming to have 20 or so hens and no rooster here at the house, laying eggs for the fridge, by christmas.. Plans for the...

Can more than one hen raise a brood?

I think I answered most of these questions in the previous reply.. I have a rooster, 1 established female, and her daughters from 2 previous broods...9 6month olds and 8 2month olds. The boys from the most recent brood will be taken to the farm in the next month or so.. so 19 birds right now...

Can more than one hen raise a brood?

They are native Filipino chickens, I am told they are Darag, which means nothing to me... The one older mother is already sitting on the 8 small eggs, and several others are making indentations in the ground and sitting in them, but with no eggs. Their enclosure is a netted off area of the...

Can more than one hen raise a brood?

Hi guys, so my chickens have come of age now, and I have had 11 eggs, albeit the smallest eggs I have ever seen!! Now, out of the 9 available nesting boxes, they have all chosen to share the same two boxes... Should I be concerned about this? If they fill one box can I move some eggs to other...

A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

There they are, I doubt they are pure breed, if anyone has any ideas about their actual heritage it would be interesting to know. I will put netting around the nesting area to prevent the tom from entering, that is a genius idea, thanks @R2elk. After that you recommend just letting nature take...

A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Hi guys, Phil, out in the Philippines here, new to turkeys. My Royal Palm male is pictured! I have a very pressing question, as a newbie.. Is it best to collect the eggs from the lady, to keep them safe until she is ready to hatch them? I have been told the Tom will potentially break eggs so it...

    Turkey Raising in the Philippines

Guys, thanks for the great responses and yes, @R2elk does seem to have covered most angles. Just a couple of points. The talk of putting fake eggs in the nest.. I have scoured our towns market and toy shops, alas no fake eggs could be found. Would a couple of real chicken eggs work to keep the...

    Turkey Raising in the Philippines

Hi guys, so I am living out in the Philippines, with a fairly small space to create my own good life.. One of my neighbours raises turkeys, and he offered me a breeding pair. SO I have netted off a section of the garden, perhaps 15 feet squared, included within is a covered structure, previously...

    Raising Turkeys in the Philippines

Hello all, I am an expat in the PHilippines, trying to live the good life! I have just got a couple of Royal Palm (I think) turkeys and am here to ensure I provide them the proper treatment and hopefully even have a few successful breeding ventures as well.
