We gave a teacher friend six of our eggs, each of them very different so six different mamas. The dads are an ayam cemani from a local breeder on Craigs list who had too many and the other dad is a cream leg bar from TS (supposed to be a girl...go figure).
The six that hatched are all very...
Tractor Supply has a big jar. In a FB forum, a chicken expert recommended this:
Drench dose .30cc of corid 2x daily, for 3 days, or until she’s eating and drinking on her own.
She's stepped away from FB so I am hoping to find an answer here. What is a drench dose? Is that straight from the jar...
As if this morning, she’s so so much better! Given the difference between the one on her nose and the one that used to be at her eye, saline solution might be good on all the poxes.
ignore the yellow on the pic in her nose. She’s been spoiled eating mashed hard boiled eggs and kefir.
Thanks! We’ve got Neosporin so we’ll do that for her eye after the saline. Poor baby does rub it on her back. It I can’t help thinking that theees improvement since she’s got it open now. Much less pus than yesterday.
Update on our girl Pouf. Neosporin on leg poxes and saline on the eye. She can open her eye again! No collar—we can’t figure out how to make one that allows her to eat. She’s eating more now which is good. We catch her scratching still unfortunately.
Help! One of our girls has what once was dry pox and is, as of today, wet pox. The pox on her left eye is not a dry scab anymore but lots of liquid is building up in the eye and she can't see out of it. How do I treat it? Iodine is one solution I found plus anti-bacterial spray or Neosporin (not...
Help! First time dealing with this. One of our girls has what once was dry pox and is, as of today, wet pox. The pox on her left eye is not a dry scab anymore but lots of liquid is building up in the eye and she can't see out of it. How do I treat it? Iodine is one solution I found plus...
They’re in a coop with chickens and our ducks lay either in the nesting boxes or in a spot where the chickens poop can be. They pretty much follow the chickens’ laying habits. While we have many nesting boxes all the girls fight over only two of them and the ducks seem to follow suit. One duck...
I love the idea of pickling because I pretty much love pickled anything. But I'd love to use the eggs for baking so that means I'd love to have them in an uncooked state. I guess I could still try this but just with a few eggs and then check around Christmas or so. Maybe it will work? I can...
Hello! I read about a method to preserve eggs for long term: water glassing eggs. We have a flock with chickens, guinea fowl and ducks. Right now, we have a good backlog of duck eggs as well as chicken. Most of what I've read is that you need to water glass very clean, unwashed eggs. But our...
Thanks to all for the help! She's back to normal today. Looks like it was just a very temporary injury that I was over-reacting to. They're not the pick-me-up-and-hug-me type of birds but we love them all the same so got a little over-cautious.
Thank you. We’ll try to figure something out. There’s always lots of drama when we try to handle the ducks so I’m afraid that could make things worse if it’s a sprain. We’ll keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t get more swollen.
First time seeing this today. Everyone was normal yesterday. They’re not friendly birds so I hesitate to try and get a photo of what I assume is underneath her foot but I’ll try tomorrow to at least get a look to see if they match. She’s being fed the same feed as everyone, chickens included...
