    Vaccinating older birds

I also have a mareks positive flock. I have new chicks ranging from 1-10 weeks but they have not been exposed outside yet. I am doing this intentionally to keep them from exposure to the flock as much as possible and I have the vaccine and intend to vaccinate all the birds that have not yet been...

Shipped eggs and new incubator, horrible hatch rate.

My govee digital thermometers both say the incubators are heating low. in the 98 range instead of 99 range. I am getting my home build cabinet incubator back and returning these. I have great success with the one I built so I am just going to keep sticking with that. I'll be getting new eggs...

Shipped eggs and new incubator, horrible hatch rate.

I have it at half. I can open it a little more. I was under the impression from the manual that the vent helped keep the humidity, not necessarily air flow.

Thanks. Yes, I am a photographer but I am terrible at wildlife. The picture was one of my first baby chicks from 3 years ago.

Shipped eggs and new incubator, horrible hatch rate.

I don't have one that could be used in an incubator. Just the thermal kind. In my cabinet incubator I built the most accurate ones seem to be the inexpensive reptile ones from the pet store. 4 of 5 of those were reading the same temperature and the fifth was 2 degrees higher. I will probably put...

Shipped eggs and new incubator, horrible hatch rate.

I pulled the eggs at two weeks with no growth. The veins had all completely retracted so they were done. I have thermometers in both of the incubators, but I also have been struggling with the accuracy of them. It might be that the incubator is a little off on the low side. Maybe by a degree or...

Shipped eggs and new incubator, horrible hatch rate.

My first time having eggs shipped to me. I had three different shippers. The first batch of 14 eggs in incubator One: I had 12 show growth at week 1, but at week 2 only 3 were still growing. The rest stopped. Second and third batch (6 and 15) in incubator Two: I had 19 with growth at week 1...

    Help Troubleshoot Home-Made Incubator

A couple years ago a built a large incubator from a wood crate. It was about 4ft tall and really heavy but it did a great job. I loaned it to a friend. and with all the time on my hands I decided to build a smaller one. Using a similar idea as the original one (and I wish I could find the...

Adding to the flock with Mareks?

Loss of balance and rapid weight loss while eating regularly was the most consistent. Several lost function in on or both legs. The most recent was textbook scissor legs. My plan is to replace the dirt in the coop entirely to reduce the exposure.

Adding to the flock with Mareks?

It's been a rough chicken year. We've lost about 10 birds since last spring, all young, to what I am confident is mareks. We would lose a bird about every 4-6 weeks. The symptoms were too textbook so we didn't have a necropsy done. Out of our new chickens that were a year or less, I have two...

Regulating Temp in Home Made Cabinet Incubaor

Thank you. I'm impressed with myself, though I love building things. We had a lot of fun with this. I can open the gaps back up. I covered them with insulation so heat couldn't escape. We finally got it to a high 99 with the 125 brooder bulb and it stayed consistent for 5 straight hours, still...

Regulating Temp in Home Made Cabinet Incubaor

My boys and I built this incubator for our Homeschool engineering class and we are going to hatch a couple batches for science. We wanted to hatch our own this year to add to our flock so we are making it all part of school. We've gotten the humidity up, but can't seem to get the temp right...

    Sour Crop Won't Go Away

It goes down some, but not completely. It doesn't help that she gorges herself with access to food. With intervention I can get it all the way down, but I can't be babysitting her constantly. It's just not fair to either of us. (She does not like the attention at all.) Sometimes when I'm...

    Sour Crop Won't Go Away

I'm feeding an 18% chicken crumble from IFA, occasionally some scratch and mealworms as treats. She usually gets to range, but I haven't been letting her since this started so I can control what she is eating. I think the initial sour crop was from blockage, but I've worked it out and I can feel...

    Sour Crop Won't Go Away

This is my first year with chickens so I am really new at this. I have what is supposed to be a BLRW, (she's larger than all my other birds by a lot and we wondered for a bit if she was a rooster). I got her at a couple days old on mothers day in May. I noticed her crop was swollen on...
