bantam hens won't go broody... how long are fertilized eggs ok for?

Thanks for the advice. I am going to continue marking them then. There are 12 eggs now. Should I start taking the oldest egg out as a fresh one is laid?

bantam hens won't go broody... how long are fertilized eggs ok for?

If fertilized eggs are only viable for a week or so, how come a hen can have 15 chicks in 1 clutch once she gets broody? I am marking the eggs that are being laid, there are about 10 or so now (I took about 10 out yesterday that I thought were "too old"), I don't think they are all from 1 hen...

    Desperate for chicks! Please help!

Sumi, I used a pellet gun a week or 2 ago (shooting next to the monkeys) amazing how they have learned to steer clear of our farm now. (for a while at least.) I am gonna google coops and runs now to get some good idea's. Must be able to disassemble though.

    Desperate for chicks! Please help!

Hi there, So last week and the week before, 2 of my Bantams laid eggs (the one had been a mom before and the other is new to this). They are free range chickens and are out all day, I leave their barn door open all day and only close it once all of them go in to roost. When there was a...

Please help with the gender of these 2

Dutch Bantams.. they are 3 weeks old now. Sugar... Spice... Spices little comb has turned pink within 1 day (but hens and roo's have pink/red combs when fully grown). Do feathers of dutch bantams give you a clue?

Look at how cheeky my bantam roo is...

I let them out this afternoon when the bantams had gone to their coop. They loved being free! Happy with the dogs, peacocks and my 3 silver sebright babies and my dutch baby. The male peacock jumped on him and they were a bit jittery. But luckily all are young and hopefully will fit in. we...

Look at how cheeky my bantam roo is...

So a neighbour gave me a rooster and 2 hens (all young still). The girls should start laying in September, Spring time for us and the rooster doesnt have spurs yet. Not sure if that is an indication of his youth at all. Our bantam rooster, The Leader Of The Pack, decided he woud park off on top...

    Can I mix these chickens?

Thanks for the response. I am wondering if I should just leave the 2 new chickens out of the main coop at night. They don't have a coop at the moment. Maybe that will eliminate some fighting. I don't want my bantams to get hurt! During the day there is more than enough space as we are on a...
