Oh wow, I just looked again at your pictures and the coop I'm remodeling is the exact identical model you have in the background behind your new construction, the little cedar 4-hen house. How funny!!! I ended up enclosing most of it with siding to make it bigger and added a few roosting rods...
@GreenAcres31 yeah I kinda figured, which is why I thought I'd put another layer of paneling or plywood over the insulation. I know for a fact my chickies would destroy the foamboard in no time flat! I really wish I had enough room to do the interior nesting boxes like yours, but just not...

I am remodeling our existing 4 hen coop to make it accomodate 7-8 hens, and I am debating the outside nesting box issue too. I am thinking I might get some of that foam board insulation to put in the walls and floor of the box, and then put some paneling or plywood over that, but I'm not quite...
My SS LOVES to climb in the big dog water bowl and wade around and scratch in the water, especially when it is at least 3-4 inches deep. It makes me laugh every time, but the dogs aren't thrilled. I wasn't aware that chickens are fond of wading. Does anyone else have water-loving chickens, and...
We do layer feed, as well as several hours a day of open foraging in the back yard. I tend to either mix oyster shell in with the feed or offer it on the side depending on how lazy I am that day. This sex-link is now about 5 and she's been chugging along steadily since I got her.
Yes I definitely think you are right about the Delaware, that's exactly what it looks like and it didn't occur to me. I'll be bummed if the little one is a Phoenix but she is a pretty little thing. Was really looking forward to easter eggs :P
They were yellow as chicks, The one is currently a lot slimmer than the other one, and the larger one has some black showing around tail and wingtips while the smaller one is all white.
My gold sex-link is sadly getting to the point where I think she's about done. I got her at about 2 years old from a neighbor and she has laid every single day since, year round! She has recently been skipping several days a week and her eggs are getting extremely brittle when she does lay. Poor...
Sorry, the first pic actually has the one from pic #2 hanging out in the background, which makes there only 2 white chickens total. She wouldn't move!!! :D Thanks for the replies. I'm glad to get at least 1 EE out of the mix, and super happy if all 3 do end up as hens. I was bummed when the BR...
Hello all! I have had a few chickens for about 3 years, and my flock has just doubled in size. My older hens are a speckled sussex, a RIR, a gold sex-link, and a bantam/ameraucana cross. The new additions are 10+ weeks old; one barred rock roo, 2 that were supposed to be buff orpingtons but that...
My sis in law got some chicks for Easter, then offered them to me after the fact. She was told 2 were Buff Orpingtons and 2 were Ameraucana. So far I know one of the Ameraucana's is actually a Barred Rock, and I think the 2 BO's are probably actually Leghorns but I would like a second opinion on...
