    awesome i think its always a cool expierence to get to see momma with her chicks. Alot easier to raise them that way then on your own.

    I am planning on hatching some BLRW and some Lavender Orpingtons. Anyone one have any of these breeds and any info would be helpful. I have buff orps and GLW and SLW didnt know if they differed much as far as temperment or egg production.

    I had to cull a rooster because it would flog my wife and made me nervous with my 3 yr old son so couldn't take the risk.

    Sometimes it does help to remove the bully from the flock as it may lower her status in the pecking order but if shes that dominant then she may just be the bully all the time. Got to take into consideration the safety of many over the safety of one.

    She could just be playing the protector role if you have no roosters in your flock. It's kind of a personal judgement call on how to handle her from here on out. It may not get better sometimes genes cant be changed.

    What recipes do you like that use a lot of eggs???

    I just usually make about 3 huge omelets for the family on sunday morning and can get alot of our older eggs used up that way. I know its nothing fancy but it works for me.

    Welcome to BYC. Enjoy the chicken expierence its definalty a fun one. Chickens are usually pretty hardy animals as far as weather goes. How cold does it get there? Where I live we had windchills of -10 and they were ok in the coop outside.
