Here's what we were doing Monday before the thunderstorm hit. A Duke's mixture of Call ducks, Mallards, Bantam Cochins, Frizzles, Silkies and Barred Rocks.
Last pics were of us putting ducklings into carrier to bring back inside before the downpour. Only in Tennessee can it start raining...
Wishing you luck! Hopefully she will settle down and go back to laying in the nest box. Ducks do not like change, so give her a bit to settle back in. :)
It's difficult for me to see on my tiny phone screen. I thought you mentioned a bluish band over the head and eyes. Plus there are two blue fawns next to it. Made me think pastels. :) Can't wait to see what your duck looks like as a young adult Ravyn. Neighbor had one that looked a...
The silvery yellow ducklings will probably be pastels. The duckling in the middle of second pic, looks like it is sporting a pastel pattern. :) Can't really see what the "platinum" one looks like from that pic. Sometimes they go thru interesting color changes.
All ducklings are so...
I figured when you mentioned Olive Branch you were probably training with Nancy. Very nice lady. Loved her accomplishments, especially as a lady w/o a herd of cattle.
Years ago we supplied her with some of her stock. Haven't seen her in years, due to families' health. Would love to...
Hello Diane,
Welcome to BYC.
Your history slightly resembles ours. We are in West Tennessee. Fellow dog show goer here, among other species. Morphed into training BCs for herding. Have flock of sheep and have raised many varieties of call ducks for almost 30 years. Do you by...
Oh ok. So there are ducks that nest in the area. That's a good sign. Technically, your ducks would be eating many of the same food stuffs as the wild ducks, but sounds like the environment may be able to sustain both.
Your pen could be as simple as dog kennel panels. These are easy to...
Welcome to posting on BYC!
Not sure what you mean by "muscovies are more waterfowl than ducks." I often describe them to folks as a combination of chicken, duck and goose habits and behaviors. Muscovies, in my experience, are not the most water loving of duck breeds. They will...
Tony K T is correct. It's best to contact your state USFW agency, DNR or etc for all the current rules and regulations.
A reputable breeder (USFW permittee) will supply you with a Federal Waterfowl Sale and Disposal form. A completed Form 3-186, Notice of Waterfowl Transfer or Sale...
Wood ducks are a wild species, even though they are captive raised and of all our exotic species, they remained the most "wild". We've had exotic waterfowl, including multiple colors of woodies for many years. We kept ours in enclosed aviaries with flight tops. We built "fort knox" type...
We, like many call duck breeders, keep our call ducks in pairs and trios. Call ducks, in our almost 30 years of experience, don't follow the same guidelines as other domestic duck breeds. Some drakes will pair bond and attack any extra females & sometimes even the female will bully other...
At the top of this thread, above Op pic of duck and text, there is a "button" that says "start new thread". Click on it, to start your own thread.
Male ducks breed females by holding the back of their head/neck and pushing them down in water. This can be a problem when one has too many...
There are many of us that raise call ducks. They are my favorite domestic breed. I love the many colors they come in. We have 20 different color varieties. After the holidays settle down, we will start shipping again. We are NPIP and AI certified. Just a little warning, call...
