I ended up with 16 chicks- here they are!

So I purchased 6 chicks almost three weeks ago because the feed store had the breeds I wanted (Buff Orpingtons and EEs). I had 8 eggs on the incubator at the time! Only two developed though, and last Saturday on egg hatched three days early! So there I have one teeny little chick, and just...

First incubator hatch in 7 years- chick is hatching early!

Update #2 I assist hatched last night, it was shrink wrapped and cheeping madly. I took off the top part of the shell that it would have zipped and let it push itself the rest of the way out. Today it's scrambling all over the incubator all by its lonesome. I hope the other egg hatches soon!!!!

First incubator hatch in 7 years- chick is hatching early!

Hi everyone! I'm back to raising chickens after a three year hiatus due to HOA regs- now I'm back on the country and keeping chickens! So a fox came and took five chickens, all of our roosters included. So I immediately put the eight eggs I had on the counter into the incubator! It's just...

Hen is rolling head and neck, weaving and stumbling, falling down :(

Quick update--- no improvement but no worse! She has been eating well on her own. I've been giving her rice and egg mixed with a little water and some soft pellets and she has been devouring it! I stopped putting her outside because she was falling over so much, and now a teenage cockerel has...

Hen is rolling head and neck, weaving and stumbling, falling down :(

Also I noticed when she does eat her bottom beak is kind of criss crossed. She may very well have always had it but I'm just seeing it now. Hmmmm.....

Hen is rolling head and neck, weaving and stumbling, falling down :(

Thanks for the links! I'm still just baffled. She heard her flock outside and flew out of the tub but she is falling forward a lot more now. She can walk around a little, and then she speeds up and eventually falls over. Her eyes are all black- no colored part. She ate some today so that's...

    Feathers being broken off

Greek yogurt is good protein, plus calcium to boot!!! Or scrambled egg, or any meat leftovers from supper. They love hamburger. And I know it's not recommended, but after a bad molt I will give canned dog or cat food one or two time only!

Hen is rolling head and neck, weaving and stumbling, falling down :(

Hello folks! I have a black Americana hen that I got from a poultry fair last November. She has recently started acting weird. 1. Hen, age unknown, a litlle lighter than usual. 2. She is bobbing and rolling her head and neck around, has a hard time getting her face in the bowl, stumbles and...

Can a Hen change the Egg color?

This just happened to me today! I have 3 Buff Orps (lg brown/pink egg), one Phoenix (med white egg), 4 silkies, and 2 Bantam Cochins (sm tan egg) and 2 silkie roosters. To these ive added a silkie/Orpington cross (so cute)(sm brown egg) and an EE I hatched from one of my sisters blue eggs. I'm...

    wry neck?

I have a silke rooster that may or may not have had wry neck. He was weak and stumbling, stopped crowing, and when he was still his head would loll back and he'd just stare up. Not quite what your guy has, but I have been giving mine a half droper of the liquid vitamins (generic poly-vi-sol)...

2 year old silkie rooster off balance and stumbling, but alert and "chicken-y"

Just an update on my little guy---about 7 days ago I started giving him the Poly-'Vi-Sol half a dropper and Tetracyclene antibiotics every single night. He wavered a bit at first, but he's recovered!!! No more stumbling, no more weird rolling of his neck, no more lolling his head back with his...

2 year old silkie rooster off balance and stumbling, but alert and "chicken-y"

I was just looking at all the wry neck posts!!! I bet that is it. I'm going to go out and isolate him in a dog kennel, even though he will hate it. On hand I only have the Vitamin and Electolyte powder, I'll have to run out and get some of the Poly-Vit whatever liquid vitamin I've been...

2 year old silkie rooster off balance and stumbling, but alert and "chicken-y"

Well, this morning when I went to see everyone, the others were all out in thr run and Gordon was still in the coop. Not normal! He was on the perch just fine but looked like he has hiccuups or Parkinson's. He is moving his head and neck all weird. I'll most likely cull the poor guy.

2 year old silkie rooster off balance and stumbling, but alert and "chicken-y"

I'll have to check his crop again-- the first exam was at night and a little rushed after work. It didn't seem over hard or over bulgy. Or stinky. I wormed him Monday night. I'll do some crop massaging and try bread with olive oil like some of the posts I've read say to. When he is falling...
