Yup, I kept her inside when I was doing the epsom salt baths and blow dried her very well afterwards (usually would take about an 45min to an hour). I waited to move her back outside until we had above freezing weather to make the transition easier on her.
I'm in Canada, Jedd's unfortunately...
I did 2 epsom salt baths on Thursday and 1 on Friday and then transitioned her back out to the coop. She doesn't look uncomfortable, and is eating and drinking normally and doing all the chicken things. I'm continuing with the calcium citrate and d3. She's also been eating oyster shells as well...
I brought her in the house yesterday and did an epsom salt bath and got the calcium citrate and d3 into her. Her back end does seem swollen (but I don't have anything to really compare it to), but so far she's acting pretty normal. Poops last night and this morning were all very normal looking...
Thank you! I'll do that. Her tail wasn't down this morning and there seemed to be only one overnight egg like poop. It was a cold night again last night, but hoping it's the last of our really cold weather.
I've had really good success with krazy glue for this when nothing else worked. I cleaned the toenail, put some krazy glue on an old yogurt lid and put some baking soda in a small container. Held pressure on the nail, then quickly dipped the nail in the krazy glue, then into the baking soda to...
Sweet pea is a 9 month old Copper Maran pullet, she started laying Jan 20th. She hasn't been the most active layer, but from Feb 1st to 17th I got 6-7 eggs from her. From March 1st to 17th I've only gotten 3 eggs and since the beginning of March there's been a few times that she's been in the...
I took a look in his mouth yesterday morning and I'm not seeing any signs of canker or anything abnormal (though I do need to check his lower beak.... I wonder if it's more curved than our hens). I was more focused on looking in his mouth than looking at his beak, so I'll maybe compare that...
Thanks for the ideas!
His crop empties beautifully, I had a hen in the fall that had the drooling water and that seemed to be connected to crop issues, but he's never had any crop issues. I'll have to take a look in his beak and see if there's anything going on, I haven't done that yet.
I had...
Not urgent, but would love some advice on what it could be and how to treat.
Dec 9th when we started getting really cold weather I noticed my rooster (olive egger) sounded congested. He was about six months old at the time. My neighbour with more chicken experience said it was likely something...
So when do you know it's time to euthanize? With my last chicken that I had to euthanize, she had been attacked by a dog and after two months there was very likely an internal infection and she wasn't able to walk (possible vit b deficiency that wasn't improving with supplementing) and when she...
I got another 24cc's of fluid into her. She had pooped, so I did 5cc raw scrambled egg, 1cc poultry cell & 18 cc water. She's not looking great though. She does stand up when I come in the room, but she's lying on the floor of the coop instead of on the roost like usual.
Total fluids so far...
I did try scrambled eggs, and chia seeds, and oatmeal, and yogurt, and even raw egg yesterday etc. The only thing she picks at is the fermented feed. She actually ate quite a bit (compared to the day before and yesterday morning) in the afternoon yesterday and even was eating some eggshell...
I think today might be the day we turn the corner!
Saturday I continued with the monistat 7 cream & the lemon and spices (I tried to space them apart). Burps were very sour smelling. There weren't any lumps by the end of the day, it was soft and squishy and I think it was just one big yeast...
Well we've definitely hit sour crop again (I had paused the monistat 7 when I started the lemon & spices... trying to reduce her stress with the syringe feeding since she get so worked up).
When I went out around 4pm her crop was very squishy and all the burps I got up were very sour smelling...
