How can I keep wild birds out of coop?

Right, I have a huge sparrow and dove problem. First they brought in soft ticks which I treated the coop twice and my girls got dipped. It worked-but now the girls have infectious bronchitis which caused loss of egg production and crinkled eggs with jello-like whites. Altho most say they are...

Egg quality diminishing -- runny yolks, bloody yolks, runny whites

That’s quite more than a blood spot or a bit of blood. I wouldn’t use them nor give away.

Also, I know the amount of research that has gone into developing chick food that specifically meets chicks needs if you buy a reputable layer brand and let them forage. So, I don’t use multivitamins and save my money for something else.

Plastic or wood coop after tick infestation

Yes, me too. BTW, I did Seresto 6 month dog collar=no ticks, then switched to monthly pills for swim season=no ticks, will switch back to collar after swim season. Wish there was a little collar for chicks:).

Plastic or wood coop after tick infestation

I thought they were sow bugs too, initially and did nothing since sow bugs are harmless to chick. If you click on any of the links I provided from bug experts at Whats That Bug, it’s an exact match. I was horrified when I saw them attached to my girls. My recommendation is to treat your girls...

Plastic or wood coop after tick infestation

Nope per the identification site “what’s that bug”, these are Soft Ticks based on images posted to BugGuide. According to Everything Poultry: "The Fowl Tick (Argas persicus) may be a serious parasite of poultry if it becomes numerous in poultry houses or on poultry ranges. The tick is a...

Plastic or wood coop after tick infestation

i have had a wood coop for years and was doing fine with my girls. A month ago, I experienced a soft tick infestation, so I dusted the coop with DE and sprayed the coop with an alcohol based citronella solution. That did nothing, so I called pest control. They sprayed the coop and area with...

    MItes and Permethrin Powder

Please let me know if the DE worked because I heard it doesn’t kill anything and I’ve been using it as a preventative for just about everything. I let my chicks dust bathe in it. Thank you
