we got three ducklings last year from tsc amd they are doing wonderul, laying and one is sitting on a nest now! we had to buy min 2 (min 6 on chicks) but I don't know exact breeds. On is a brown runner duck, on I think is a black and white crested peking (drake) and the other is a beautiful grey...
well here is my deal! I have two lovely ducks and a drake. They are almost a year old. I also have 15 chicken hens and two roosters. They all live together in a coop and have two yards to roam in!
well we noticed yesterday that the little runner duck has gone broody. And i have just finished...
here is what we did this winter... it only got as low as 16degree but it kept the water from freezing. I have a 5 gal (?) metal waterer. it sits at the entrance of the house that has an attached (all wired in) open area of the coop . It is right next to the wire wall. I took the fabric cover off...
We are seemingly always redoing parts of this old place and have had to readjust chickens and ducks... I find a little veggie treat does the trick. When we moved the coop I let the ladies (and gentlbirds) out to play and nibble (we had a terrible pooping problem, right out my back bedroom steps...
I don't have pictures but we are using some shipping crates (the local gas stations ship boiled peanuts in). The are light weight and I figure when i clean out the coop from the litter at spring I will just get new crates! I do think they let too much light in, but they are nice and roomy!
