Thanks for the replies. They have bright red combs and waddles which have been like that for about 3 weeks now. We feed them on layers pellets mixed with grit and the occassional handful of corn. They get fresh water everyday too. I wasnt sure if they could be too fat or if it was to do with the...
I wondered if anyone could help me. I have 2 plymouth barred rock hens. I bought them when they were 15 weeks old and they are now 23 weeks old but havent layed any eggs. I wondered if anyone could tell me if there are any signs I should look for that might give me an indication that they will...
I have 2 lots of quail. The first lot is 6 weeks old and the second lot is 2 weeks old and I was wondering if I could mix them together with the brooder lamp on in the cage? Just so I dont have the 2 cages and keep them all together, if anyone knows? thanks
Good Luck! You will learn a lot from your first hatch. I know I did!! and I read a lot of conflicting information between sites but you just have to pick which you think will work best for you and your set up and stick with it and see what happens and learn from it for the next time. I only...
I have to say I agree with you there. I had a few that hadnt hatched so I float tested them after candling them and not being able to see any movement or pips etc and they all floated so I kept up the hope they would hatch but when I checked them they were all dead and not developed properly but...
Yeh it looks like I am just going to have to wait. When I was trying to vent sex them they all looked the same sex to me and now one has rusty coloured feathers developing around its vent area which I think means its a male from what I've read. I will just have to wait and see what happens but...
Thats lovely! My kids were involved with the whole process too. They took lots of pictures, and watched the eggs hatch and then when the chicks were older they handled them and helped clean them out. Its a lovely experience to share with them.
Hiya I'm in the UK too. I've just hatched some chinese painted quail that are 3 weeks old now and half way through incubating a second lot. I used a quail egg box to settle the eggs pointy end down before putting them in the incubator but I'm guessing you dont have one so you might have to...
I was just wondering what age you could start sexing button quail? I have 6 which are currently just 4 weeks. I've tried vent sexing them with the guide on this forum but they all looked the same to me and I couldnt decide if they were hens or cocks. Is it too early to tell? thanks
Hiya I've just had my first hatch of quail eggs. I'm not an expert by any means but it was just to say I felt like you did as my incubator is homemade and we had a couple of temperature swings like you have but out of 30 of our eggs 10 have hatched. The rest had died at various different stages...
Congratulations! I bought my eggs from ebay too. All of them were fertile and 7 have hatched so far but its day 19 now and some are still trying to work their way out. The first one hatched day 16. Some take ages to hatch out (like 24 hours or more) and others have hatched by the time it takes...
Only 7 out of my 30 cpq quail eggs have hatched but this was my first time incubating! The others I think I'm going to give a bit longer as today is day 19. They are so cute! I can't wait to incubate more!!!!! lol
I started with 30 eggs. 6 of which have hatched and another one is working its way out. 1 of the chicks died after piping through the shell. So I decided to candle and float test the rest of the eggs this morning. 1 was floating really high. 5 were jigging about in the water and the others...
