We have six hens and I try to clean out their coop a couple times a month. The problem is that we don't know how to dispose of the used shavings. Some of it I throw in compost but I've got way more shavings than I do greens for my compost. we tried burning it once but it takes forever and...
Lol....we have 6 chickens, 3 nesting boxes. I also noticed last night that one of them got separated from the others and starting squawking like crazy! I went out to calm her and then was ok. They were just different yesterday. So far seem fine this morning. We'll see.
I used to let them free range quotes bit until the neighbors started complaining....ugh! Now I let them out a few hours in the evening and they put themselves to bed. Hubby says I've spoiled them and they want out all the time. But yesterday they did it even when they were out.
My chickens are about 5 mo old. We have 6 and we've been getting 4 eggs per day consistently for awhile. Today I've noticed that a couple of them have been unusually very noisy. Not sure why. Don't know if they could be stressed, although nothing environmentally is different. We feed them good...

How can I make sure that my young laying hens are getting proper nutrition? They are 4 months old and began laying about a week ago. I know that they need a lot of protein. I give them meal worms a couple of times a day (in fact, that's how I coax them back into their pen...ha!), but I'm not...
Thank you. Our ground here is very clay like, which make it kindve hard for them to dig holes. That's why I thought maybe wetting their pen down with a hose, making it easier to dig. But I like your idea of a mister. I will try that for mid day cooling. Thank you very much!
My girls are about 3 1/2 months old. We let them free range for awhile each day, but when they are in their pen, even though they have fresh water, they seem to be panting. I don't want them to be overheated. We have a board that covers the sunny side of their pen. I know they don't like to get...
