How much do your birds eat?

Oooh I get so excited about mealworms! We raise our own in a three tiered bin (like the plastic ones you get for storing school work or little things) from Walmart. We used to do this complex system where adults went on top, eggs and juveniles went on second layer (with mesh in between so eggs...

How much do your birds eat?

Hey! 19 chicken and duck owner here! We made our own feeder using a giant rubbermaid bin with holes cut in the side (and tubes entered in from an old bucket feeder we overpaid for; basically thick PVC pipe) This allows us to keep the (hundreds of) finches from absolutely destroying the food...

Can a dog and chickens safely coexist in a small backyard?

As a person with three dogs and 19 chickens and ducks, I say that a dog is ABSOLUTELY doable. I have had dogs before chickens and dogs that came in after chickens. I have had all sorts of breeds (German Shepherd, collie, lab, pit bull, unknown mix) around my chickens. All of my birds free range...

    Help! My four babies died!

I have a terrible, terrible update! I just got home today to find three more chickens dead!!!! I have no idea what happened. Two of the chickens were outdoors and were about 7-8 months old and one of the chickens has never even been around the others! She had a cut leg so I was treating her...

    Help! My four babies died!

OMG. Just read about botulism. Extremely disturbing. I am going to go check their feed now. They mostly eat dried feed but it's definitely possible that some of the feed got onto the ground and got wet by the misters/water area.

    Help! My four babies died!

I'll look up the botulism issue; I'll need to make sure that I prevent that for any of my other birds. There's definitely a lot of stray cats around (anyone who lives in AZ knows this well...) but I've never had a problem with them before and my dogs were out at the time of the deaths so I...

    Help! My four babies died!

I really didn't think so but I figured I'd post the question. The bag was still upright and there was no significant droppage.

    Help! My four babies died!

Goodness, I certainly hope no one put poison out... In a nefarious way. We do not use rat poison in my home or outside due to the animals (and dogs; they get into everything). We actually don't have any poison or traps (other than bug traps that are all inside and hanging fly traps outside). My...

    Help! My four babies died!

I appreciate your response! I think I'll call the emergency vet and see; don't want my other feathered friends to catch anything!

    Help! My four babies died!

There was definitely a concern about snakes (there are a lot of them out here!) but I don't have any scorpions on my lot (they are very territorial so you either have them or you don't! Thankfully...) My three dogs were all outside so I would think that lessens the possibility of a snake (but it...

    Help! My four babies died!

Hello all, Long time reader, first time poster. I am seeking some serious assistance. I currently have (had!! :( :( ) a total of 2 ducks, 2 roosters, four babies and 8 adult hens. My rooster (the father of all the babies) is a pure bred Polish Rooster and is currently somewhere around...
