Thanks, I was assuming the larger white headspots were *more* likely to be boys as is the case with most barred-chicks but all had a white dot ranging in size from small and faint to large. Thank you for the very informative answer and taking the time to explain.
I did have one solid blue chick...
So I have an azure egger rooster from Alchemist farms and he's the crele type coloration, so he has barring....
From their site about azure eggers "The Azure Egger Chicks are autosexing and follow the feather patterns of cream legbars as chicks: a white dot on the head means male and an...
I’m also in Gaston, small world!
For winterizing make sure they have a dry predator proof sleeping area. I don’t provide heat in the winter to any that are fully feathered since we honestly don’t get too cold or snowy usually.
I need to take pix of my pencilled younuns... my guess on the most marked one being a Tom is correct and think I have 2 more pencilled Toms to be. I am pretty sure I have 2 bourbon toms to be as well. I got a few good gobbles out of them but half were piled up in the back area on the roost so...
I have my 6 older bourbons and 6 new bourbons from Porters and 8 pencilled blue palm from Porters as well.
Lots of variety in the palms from almost all white to very variegated!
She will run out into the pen, lay her egg, then turn around and eat it.... I can’t tell which hen it is since about 3 look exactly the same, lol. If I catch her doing it again she may go into a dog kennel and see if my egg production goes up again.
So what should I do about an egg eating hen? Sell/eat I assume is the best course of action. I saw a hen drop an egg in the run and then turn around and eat it... there’s already fake eggs in the nest box and they have free choice oyster shell and 20% protein feed plus black soldier...
So I have 7 muscovies that free range the yard/surrounding areas. I have 10 muscovy ducklings (5-5.5 weeks old now) and 5 same age toulouse goslings.
They all sleep in the same duck hut that I have divided down the center with hardware cloth so they've seen each other up close and personal for...
I recently had to cull an 8 week ranger meat bird (had a very sour crop that wouldn't resolve; chest skin was ripping and was starving out) so I did the broomstick style method. I would recommend it, it was very quick. I held the bird upside down football style for a few moments beforehand to...
One of my poults hatched with a missing outer toe... I thought it was just a clumsy poult until was doing a once over on all of them checking navels and whatnot. Odd... I used my crappier backup incubator so wonder if the temps varied too much or if my new hen that started laying has some crappy...
My turkeys are happy! We have a garden bed we want the grass and weeds gone from and so I made an enclosed run over the garden beds and the turkeys were loving all the spring grasses. Taking bets how many days until bare earth, lol.
Have my second poult-hatch currently hatching out, I think 15...
