First time hatching with broody hen

Hello, I have a similar question/experience with where the mama is nesting. We have a large fenced in area (former dog run) that my 7 hens and 1 rooster roam around in. Two henhouses they split up and sleep in at night (they seem to switch between them from time to time, strangely). Everyone...

If I keep my rooster am I just asking for trouble?

I'll check out the youtube channel - thanks!! Yes the pecking was pretty minimal and half curious, but now he tolerates me reaching out to give him a little pet.

If I keep my rooster am I just asking for trouble?

Thanks for all the ideas! I think it's the coop size. Ugh. I think we're going to need a second coop. Right now the little guy crowing is cute, I don't mind it (for now!) We're in the country so no issues with neighbors or restrictions.

@Ridgerunner @Ridgerunner this is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for, thanks so much for going through each question!! It sounds like I should give it some more time and observe how they're all doing.

If I keep my rooster am I just asking for trouble?

I have a couple of issues going on, and I'm not sure if they're related. I have just a year's worth of experience with my flock. I have 4 hens about a year old, and just introduced 3 new pullets who were about 8 weeks. They were outside of the henhouse at night in their own open air cage, but a...

    Chicken bedtime is rough

Hello, first time posting. My chickens have been outside for three nights now in their henhouse, and they are going in and out of it in the daytime just fine. At night, I've set my auto door to close at 8pm and I'd like them to get into bed by then... but it's been a bit of a mess stuffing them...
