Three days ago I gave the hens a quick look, counted them and locked the coop door.
Next morning my kids open the coop door.
Late in the day I was told that the Sussex was missing, we looked everywhere without success. Today I found her dead in a corner inside the coop behind the closed bucket...
I was accustomed to having 4-5 eggs per day from my five pullets. A month ago my feed supplier was out of my usual chicken feed so I had to buy a 16% protein feed. I had to go out of town for two weeks, when I got back I started to usually get only two eggs per day. In the past two days I have...

2) should I reposition the poop tray under the roosting bar to be 4-6 inches below the bar ?
Thanks.
I do have fake eggs in the box least used.
It’s not as if they prefer one of the boxes, they are doing it in both boxes.
Could it be a defensive mechanism against a predator ? My wife has pointed out that the hens have been rather loud the past two days. I noticed the same yesterday but...
My hens, (3 BO, 1 EE, 1 SS)are behaving odd and I do not understand it. Three are 14 month old, the others under a year.

From the advise I received it’s important that the hen body’s temperature Drops. So keep her in the cage and have the cage elevated so air can flow below the hen. I also placed an ice packet, wrapped in a plastic bag below the cage.
I would not keep her in the garage if it’s warm in there.
Cannot say about your area but your coop would kill my chickens. Due to the high humidity and high temperatures we need open coops. Attached is a picture of mine.
