Sad to report that we had Leggy put to sleep last Thursday. Despite seeming so well (apart from the leg not working) she was eating well, drinking well and greeting us quite happily. She started to make wheezy breathing noises and her respiration seemed more rapid and she wasn't as active as...
Really sorry to have to report that we had to have Leggy put to sleep last Thursday.
She was looking really healthy and eating well up to three days before this but then she started making wheezy noises when breathing and I had read that this can happen with Marek's - they seem to recover but it...
Further update on Leggy.
She's looking fine, tail up, eating and drinking well still. Poo seems normal. She's started making her clucking noises again when we go to see her.
She still can't walk more than a step without losing balance at which point she just sinks down with both legs beneath...
just seems weird that she's the only one to suffer. I presume the ex batts have been vaccinated against Marek's as young chicks. We have 4 non batts in with the 4 ex batts plus Leggy who's residing in the bathroom at the moment. We're at the waiting stage with Leggy - any sign of her curling...
thank you for this information. We don't know what to do with our Leggy. She had an air sac infection and lameness together. The infection cleared after a few days on antibiotic. The leg problem has slowly improved to the point where she can stand and move around a bit now. She appears to...
we have one like this but hers started with an air sac infection about 4 weeks ago. Found her on the floor grunting - no advance warning - when it was getting time to roost.
She's had antibiotics and a steroid injection and the infection has cleared but she still is having bother with her left...
My chicken "Leggy" was able to stand for quite a while today, She took a few steps without keeling over too, It's her right leg that's the problem she puts it to the floor then picks it up again. She's been treated with Baytril for her original air sac infection and then with a steroid in...
Leggy is still alive , bright eyed and is eating well. I keep showering her rear end so she doesn't get sore. She can stand and stretch up with no problem but when she tries to walk she keels over.
I read on another forum about using hypericum and colloidal silver alternately every 4 hours...
I'm not sure how transmissible it is - will need to do some more research. She's been in our bath apart from one day when I put her in an "isolation area" so she could see and hear the other hens. I hoped that this might somehow encourage her to stand and walk.
Sorry to hear of your...
Hi there, we seem to have the same problem with our Cream Legbar "Leggy" and she's about the same age as yours.
It started with an air sac infection. I found her lying on the floor when I went to shut up the coops - she was making a grunting noise when she breathed. There had been no previous...
Thank you for the reply. Having looked on the internet it would seem that this could be the problem. The classic "one legged paralysis" just about clinches the diagnosis.
It's such a shame as there is no cure. Maybe we need to take her sooner than later poor girl. She's been residing in our...
Hi there We have some ex-battery hens and they are very prone to EYP as their egg laying mechanisms are basically worn out. In my experience you need to get her to a vet asap if you are to save her. By the time they appear ill with it it is usually too late. I think they hide their illness to...
