    Coop/Storage Shed

We did exactly that!...I purchased a display model shed from Home Depot...it is 10' wide but only 3.5' deep as it was a unit that was placed against the front of the store as display. It has double barn doors and I built a wall where they meet dividing the shed in half. In the divider wall I...

    Green roofs??

Perhaps you can build some 2x4 supports that span the coop and then use an inexpensive hardshell kiddie pool for the garden trough. You will have to put a few drain holes in it that can drain into 3/4" pvc system. Seems like a real cool project though!

    Trampoline coop!!

It is a neat idea, but could use a little refinement. I think it would be interesting to explore how the roof can be turned into an herb garden or a water catchment system.

    Coop suggestions

I have heard of folks looking on craigslist and using old Rubbermaid plastic tool sheds or even Little Tykes style playhouses as starter coops...with some creativity they could work rather well I would suspect.

What to plant in my run

We are also planting veggies around the outside of the chicken yard...our goal is to limit the access from the hens, but rather plant stuff they like and while harvesting, I will toss some over the fence for a treat.

    Leaving coop door open?

We are new to chickens too. We leave the coop door open on non-windy nights so they learn how to roost themselves inside. On alternating nights we leave a small light on for them. During the winter we leave the feeder and the water in the coop, but when it is warm we let them hang outside. We...

1/2x1/2 hardware cloth or 1x2 welded wire for outdoor aviary?

Very nice run...I suggest using cut planks or plywood to build a type of wainscoating at least 18" high around the bottom. It is very strong, looks great and really impedes many critters. This is our run which is about 10' deep and 6' wide but in this pic you can see the wood around the bottom.

    The Best Layer

I am an Urban Homesteader and new to the chicken world...I built my coop and bought 6 new chicks...after some research they are Gold Sex Links (Leghorn/RIR hybrids?)...they are friendly and fun...but a week ago they started laying...since the first egg dropped...They have produced 22 to the...

    Post Your Coop Pics

Here is my first shot at building a coop...I used 95% recycled materials thanks to Hurricane Sandy (my kids didn't need the treehouse anyway)...the small coop is a found structure that I repaired and now houses my quail. I renovated and partitioned an old rotting/existing shed to act as the...
